Auburn Offensive Line Rebuild Shows Signs But One Piece Missing

Auburn's offensive line is rebuilding and gaining momentum under new leadership, focusing on chemistry and teamwork to tackle the challenges ahead.

When Alex Golesh stepped into the role of Auburn's head coach, he faced a significant challenge: revamping the offensive line. Last season's investments in talent didn’t quite translate into the win column for the Tigers, making this a crucial area for improvement in 2026.

Enter Alex Hudanick, tasked with leading an almost entirely new offensive line. With just three true freshmen returning, Auburn has brought in transfers from USF and across the country, alongside a promising group of high school recruits.

The Tigers are now working to find their stride, especially against a formidable DJ Durkin defense that’s pulling no punches this spring. With the defensive system remaining consistent, the onus is on the offensive line to adapt and keep pace.

Golesh shared his thoughts on the challenge: "I told Durk, 'Man, on day two, you're getting some of the wildest looks.' It's all part of the process.

We even practiced silent counts to prepare for the fall. We're throwing a lot at the offensive line, and I've been really impressed with their progress over these four days."

Facing a tough defensive front and a dynamic linebacker group, the offensive line is learning on the fly. Golesh added, "This isn't an excuse, but I've been pleased with their growth. Prayers answered so far, and we’ll keep hoping for the best."

Golesh is optimistic about the line's progress, saying, "The group is coming together. Getting Stanton Ramil back will be key, and we’ll be at full strength by summer. Their intent and attention to detail have been impressive, especially against such a complex defense."

Building chemistry off the field has been a priority since January, according to USF transfer and center Cole Best. "On the O-line, if you’re not connected off the field, you don’t stand a chance on it," Best explained.

"Knowing each other's stories and building trust is essential. We've been working hard on those relationships through training and weekends together, and it's paying off."

James Madison transfer Jo Simmons echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of team chemistry. "It's tough, but the OTA's and spring ball have helped us mesh.

Getting the pads on is crucial because you’ve got to play together. It's a process, but we're getting there."

As the Tigers push forward, this revamped offensive line is setting the foundation for what could be a transformative season. The journey is just beginning, but the signs of progress are promising.
