Auburn has put itself in a strong position with one of the biggest quarterback names in the 2028 class, and Sam Sollie isn’t hiding how he feels about the Tigers with his commitment date set for Aug. 8.
The Alabama native is down to five schools - Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Florida - and multiple predictions have already leaned toward Auburn. That makes sense when you hear Sollie talk about the program. He said Auburn has been recruiting him the hardest, and the connection runs deeper than football.
“I love Auburn,” he said. “Just the coaching staff, I love what Golesh is going to do this year.
I love the campus; I love the fanbase. I actually grew up an Auburn fan, so Auburn’s extra special to me too… I remember going to games when I was younger and thinking to myself, like ‘dang, I want to be one of those guys one day.
I want to be an Auburn Tiger.’
Sollie’s background helps explain why so many programs are involved. He has offers from eight SEC schools and several ACC programs, and he’s already built a profile as a true pro-style quarterback.
He’s currently rated as the 40th-best quarterback in the 2028 class and the 20th-best player in Alabama, but that ranking could keep climbing. He only became a true high school starter less than a season ago after moving from 3A to 6A and earning his first full-time job in week four of his sophomore year at Gadsden City.
His June visits only seemed to strengthen Auburn’s case. Sollie pointed to the first one as a major moment, especially after Joel Gordon came to see him during the spring for a private workout.
“The first one was a really important day,” he said. “[Joel Gordon] came and saw me during the spring for a private workout.
That was a big day for me, and that was more of a camp day. The 16th, I came back and ended up building relationships with the coaching staff and getting to know more about them.”
One conversation with Alex Golesh clearly stuck with him. The new Auburn head coach has already earned strong reviews from recruits, and Sollie said Golesh was direct with him about where he stands and what still needs work.
“I really, really liked my conversation with Coach Golesh,” Sollie said. “He shot me straight and told me what I needed to work on and what I’m already good at.
That’s something I look forward to, and a coach saying, you know, what I need to do better. I’m a very coachable guy, and I like to know what I can do better because, of course, nobody’s perfect.”
Sollie said Auburn is “100%” trending toward the top of his list, and he made it clear the Tigers are sitting near the front of the pack.
“They’ve definitely been recruiting me the hardest for sure,” he said. “I’m super grateful to have the opportunity to go to any of these schools, but just having the Auburn offer is extra special, you know, growing up an Auburn fan, so Auburn is definitely up there for me… Everyone that’s gone to Auburn has loved Auburn so… that’s all I’m gonna say.”
Beyond the recruiting race, Sollie says his faith helps him stay grounded through the process. He leans on John 13:7, which he said says that “You may not know now, but later you will understand.
I try to stay patient and trust God’s plan. That’s what I roll with.”
