Auburn's men's basketball program has made a significant move by bringing in Brian Kloman as their new general manager, a role becoming increasingly vital in college basketball. Kloman joins Auburn after a successful stint at Louisville, where he served as Executive Director of Player Personnel and Strategic Initiatives under head coach Pat Kelsey. His journey with Kelsey spans 12 seasons, including time at Louisville, College of Charleston, and Winthrop.
Auburn head coach Steven Pearl expressed his excitement about the addition, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Brian Kloman to our program as our General Manager. Brian brings a unique combination of vision, energy, and expertise that will immediately elevate our staff and strengthen our overall operation." Pearl highlighted Kloman's role in Kelsey's successes, emphasizing his relentless work ethic, innovative approach, and exceptional talent evaluation.
As Auburn gears up for the transfer portal opening on April 7, Kloman's expertise will be crucial. The team faces the challenge of replacing key players, and his experience in navigating the portal, roster building, and managing NIL agreements will be invaluable.
At Louisville, Kloman's responsibilities included recruiting, roster construction, and cap management, leveraging a vast network and a strong track record as a top recruiter both domestically and internationally.
This is not Auburn's first foray into hiring a general manager. Last offseason, they brought in Matt Gatens from Iowa. However, when Bruce Pearl stepped down, Gatens transitioned to an assistant coach role, paving the way for Steven Pearl's leadership.
Kloman's arrival marks a strategic step for Auburn, aiming to bolster their program's competitiveness and adaptability in the ever-evolving landscape of college basketball.
