Auburn’s season debut ended with a breathless finish, and now the Tigers turn the page to their first home game of the year against Southern Miss on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The opener against Baylor was anything but clean, but Auburn still got what it needed most: a win. In Alex Golesh’s first game as head coach, the Tigers survived a tense rematch with Baylor and finished off a 17-16 victory in Atlanta when Eric Winters made a goal-line tackle with nine seconds left. It sealed the two-year series for Auburn and sent Golesh into his Plains era with a dramatic result.
There was plenty left to sort out. Auburn’s offense never found much rhythm, and the defense had its own shaky moments even while making the play that decided the game. Still, the Tigers are 1-0 and now get a chance to sharpen things at home.
For the matchup with Southern Miss, Matt Schumaker and former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray will handle the broadcast duties, with Taylor Davis reporting from the sideline.
