Texas quarterback Arch Manning is already sounding like a believer in Cam Coleman.
At SEC Media Days, Manning was asked about the former Auburn standout, and he didn’t hesitate to gush about the receiver Texas landed this offseason. Coleman, who was Auburn’s top wideout last season, became one of the biggest losses for the Tigers after six Auburn receivers entered the transfer portal and the position group was rebuilt from scratch.
Now Coleman is in Austin, where he joins Manning and head coach Steve Sarkisian on a Texas roster carrying big expectations. Along with Ryan Wingo, Coleman is expected to be one of Manning’s main targets.
Manning made it clear he sees plenty to like in the new addition.
“He’s a really good athlete, a freak athlete,” Manning said, “but he’s also a really good person and a very hard worker.”
Coleman has been around the program since arriving in Austin in January, and he’s already logged time through spring practice, winter workouts, summer workouts and OTAs. That early start has helped him and Manning build chemistry fast.
According to Manning, Coleman’s approach has made the relationship easy to develop.
“The good thing about Cam and how we built our relationship is he always wants to throw,” Manning said. “He always wants to meet extra, and I think anytime you get a guy like that, it’s easier for me to become close with him.
“He’s also a good guy. We can joke, and we can go eat.
And I’m excited to have him on my team. That’s for sure.”
