Auburn’s latest football hype video is doing something simple, and for Tiger fans it feels almost revolutionary: it’s leaving Hugh Freeze out of it.
The 2026 season video dropped without the snow, ice or “Freeze Warning” gimmicks that had become part of the program’s recent marketing. For a fan base that spent plenty of time rolling its eyes at the old setup, the shift landed exactly the way Auburn probably hoped it would. On X/Twitter, fans were quick to celebrate the move away from pun-heavy nods to Freeze and toward a cleaner focus on the campus and the program itself.
That reaction says plenty about where Auburn is right now. Freeze was fired last November and replaced by Alex Golesh, and the new era is already being framed as a break from the noise that came before it.
Some fans are done hearing anything about freezing, snow or icy themes on the Plains unless another January 2025-style storm actually hits the area. After a run of embarrassing losses and too many reminders that the team was “close,” the old branding had worn thin.
There’s also a reason the fan base is so eager to move on. Freeze arrived with a hurting program and managed to build up false hope through misleading recruiting results, only for the next coach to inherit an offense that needs to be rebuilt from scratch.
His Auburn run left his coaching reputation in a worse spot than before, and his name barely comes up around college football now. He hasn’t landed another coaching job, and he hasn’t even found a broadcasting role like Brian Kelly did, if he’s looking for one.
Freeze may have more of a future in golf. Just joking. Freeze definitely has more of a presence in golf these days than football, though.
For Golesh, the assignment is a lot more straightforward. In Auburn, a record above .500 in his first season would go a long way with fans in Lee County, Alabama.
Winning six regular-season games and finally getting over the bowl-game hump would be enough to buy real goodwill. The standard will almost certainly rise after that, but right now Auburn supporters would gladly take the chance to worry about bigger expectations later.
That’s because the program is still trying to shake off five years of historic losing and a broader slide in national relevance during the NIL era. The product hasn’t been consistently entertaining, and even the close games in 2025 were mostly a credit to the defense. What Auburn needs first is something to believe in again.
If Golesh can provide that, the pressure that usually comes with the job won’t feel quite so heavy at the start. Jimmy Rane’s pledge of financial support for the football program under Golesh only adds to that runway.
For now, the message from Auburn’s new hype video is clear: no more snow, no more ice, and no more Hugh Freeze punchlines. Just a fresh start.
