Auburn Awaits A Massive In-State Decision On The Defensive Line

Can Auburn regain the edge over Georgia and Ohio State in the final hours before Karlos May announces his much-anticipated college decision?

Auburn’s push for Karlos May reaches the finish line Saturday, but the Tigers are no longer the clear favorite they once looked like.

The four-star Alabama defensive lineman is set to announce his college choice at 3 p.m. ET on July 18, and his list has been trimmed to Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, and Florida State.

For a while, Auburn looked like the program to beat. That changed as Georgia moved back into the lead and Ohio State picked up real momentum after May’s official visit.

That doesn’t mean Auburn is out of the picture completely. DJ Durkin and Vontrell King-Williams have already put together a strong defensive front in this class, with Donivan Moore, Nate Kamba, James Pace, Rion Jackson, and most recently Marquis' MJ' Evans all in the fold. Even with May trending elsewhere, the Tigers have built enough inside to keep this recruitment from becoming a make-or-break swing.

Still, landing May would be a major addition. He is regarded as a high 4-star defender and the fifth-best player in Alabama, and he would bring even more value to a class that already has some serious defensive line traction. He could also join Evans, another Birmingham player, if Auburn can pull off the upset.

The race has been shaped heavily by NIL, and May has made that clear throughout the process. Georgia was first named as his leader, then Auburn briefly surged after his official visit, and soon after that he said the Bulldogs were back on top. With Ohio State still firmly involved, this one has stayed fluid all the way to decision day.

Even if Auburn doesn’t land him on Saturday, this might not be the end of the story. A future flip remains in play.

Auburn Just Revealed The First Faces Of Its Nike Era

Auburns new Nike chapter is starting with a familiar mix of newcomers and returning pieces, and the school made that clear by putting quarterback Byrum Brown, linebacker Xavier Atkins and receivers Keshaun Singleton and Chas Nimrod on its NIL roster for the season. Brown, Singleton and Nimrod all followed coach Alex Golesh from South Florida to Auburn, while Atkins gives the Tigers a proven defensive anchor as the program leans into a fresh look under the swoosh.

The timing matters, too, because Auburn is already looking ahead to a 2026 opener that should bring early national attention. The Tigers will start the season Sept. 5 against Baylor in the Aflac Kickoff Game in Atlanta, a stage that should give these new Nike faces an immediate chance to be part of the programs next big introduction. Auburns Future Backfield Looks Even Scarier After Latest RB Ranking

Auburns 2027 recruiting picture at running back keeps looking stronger, and Myson Johnson-Cook is a big reason why. The committed prospect has already drawn major attention from national services, and the buzz is backed up by what he did on the field last season against top competition, where he piled up more than 1,300 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns.

For Auburn, the appeal goes beyond one standout recruit. Johnson-Cook is part of a backfield class that is shaping up to be loaded, giving the Tigers a chance to stockpile talent at a position that can change the direction of an offense fast. If the early rankings are any indication, Auburn may not just be adding depth in 2027, but building a group that could make the backfield one of the programs most intriguing strengths. [Read more 🡒]
