Alex Golesh isn’t rushing to put a hard cap on Auburn’s 2027 recruiting class, even with the Tigers already sitting in a strong spot on the trail.
At SEC Media Days on Tuesday, July 21, in Tampa, Fla., Golesh made clear that Auburn’s recruiting picture has changed dramatically since he arrived. The program had to scramble to piece together its 2026 signing class, which finished 31st nationally and 12th in the SEC in 247Sports’ team rankings. Now, the 2027 group is already stacked near the top of the national board.
“We've had to make up a lot of ground in recruiting,” Golesh said Tuesday, July 21, at SEC Media Days. “That was such a huge, huge point of emphasis from the moment I got there. I told our staff right away, we're a year behind.”
Auburn’s 2027 class currently includes 25 commitments and ranks in the top 10 nationally and top five in the SEC, ahead of programs such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee. Fifteen of those pledges are rated four-star prospects or better, and the group already looks deep enough to be nearly complete before signing day arrives.
Still, Golesh isn’t treating the class like a finished product - or a math problem with a fixed answer.
“I don't know if there's truly a number,” he said. “The whole roster management part right now is so - maybe the word would be crazy?
Simply because there's going to be a handful of guys that get a fifth year that we didn't know had a fifth year, whether they take the fifth year or not. So, the number is so in flux, and I don't know that we would ever turn down a really, really good player, but I really like where we're at in terms of, we filled every need we had, and we're really, really excited.”
The class is loaded with high-end talent. Of Auburn’s more than two dozen commitments, seven are ranked among the top 200 players nationally, four are top-10 players nationally and four are also top-10 players in Alabama.
Even with that kind of haul, Golesh said there’s no reason to get ahead of the process. For him, the real checkpoint comes later.
“Signing day is in December, so we've got to go have success on the field to be able to validate what we've been selling and preaching, but I'm really excited with where we are,” he said. “We're not going to turn down a good player, though.”
