Joakim Gouda, a four-star linebacker from McEachern High School in Georgia, recently took in the sights and sounds of Auburn's practice, and he walked away impressed. Though he didn’t spill the beans on where Auburn ranks among his top choices, Gouda certainly had plenty of praise for what he saw.
During his visit, Gouda witnessed a practice session that was nothing short of intense. “When they’re really supposed to get after it, they get after it for sure,” he noted, highlighting the high-energy environment fostered by head coach Alex Golesh and his staff. This intensity and intentionality have become hallmarks of Auburn’s recruiting efforts this spring.
As a linebacker, Gouda naturally gravitated towards Auburn’s defensive coordinator, DJ Durkin. Known for his fervent approach to practice, Durkin made a strong impression.
“He’s my guy,” Gouda said. “He’s very passionate about it and I like that.
I like when a coach is passionate and takes pride in what he does.”
Looking ahead, Gouda has an official visit to Auburn lined up for June. His recruitment is shaping up to be a fierce battle, with powerhouse programs like Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama also in the mix.
According to the 247Sports composite, Gouda ranks as the No. 199 overall player in the 2027 class and the 15th-best linebacker. Auburn would certainly benefit from adding his talents to their roster.
Despite keeping his cards close to his chest about Auburn’s standing, Gouda was full of admiration for the environment on the Plains. “Just even outside the facility, it’s great people around,” he shared. “Coaches are great, players are great, just a great environment that Auburn has.”
With his recruitment heating up, it’s clear that Gouda’s journey to decision day will be one to watch. Auburn fans can take heart in knowing that the Tigers made a strong impression on this talented young linebacker.
