Atlanta Hawks sensation Jalen Johnson is turning heads this season, earning his first All-Star nod and capturing the attention of fans across the league. Known for his dynamic above-the-rim play, knack for triple-doubles, and versatile skill set, Johnson is drawing comparisons to none other than Bulls legend Scottie Pippen.
On the "Mind the Game" podcast in January, LeBron James weighed in on Johnson's potential, likening him to the six-time champion. James emphasized Johnson's talent, highlighting his long arms, 6-foot-9 or 6-10 frame, and remarkable athleticism.
"He’s improved his outside touch," James noted, praising Johnson's ability to pressure the rim, rebound, and defend across all positions. "His playmaking is going to keep getting better," James added.
Hawks icon and broadcaster Dominique Wilkins has also joined the chorus, seeing shades of Pippen in Johnson. Drawing from his own experiences competing against the legendary Bulls duo in the '80s, Wilkins remarked, "He’s a bit of Scottie Pippen as a point forward." Wilkins highlighted Johnson’s rebounding, passing, and consistent flirtation with triple-doubles as elements that set him apart.
Currently, Johnson is posting impressive averages of 23.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game. With the Hawks trading Trae Young to the Wizards, Johnson has stepped up as the team's primary option, solidifying his role as a cornerstone of the franchise.
