The Atlanta Hawks have certainly been through a whirlwind of changes this season, with injuries and trades reshaping the roster multiple times. Yet, despite the upheaval, the Hawks are right in the mix, eyeing a playoff spot as the regular season winds down.
This latest iteration of the team is on a roll, boasting a seven-game winning streak. Jalen Johnson, a steady presence for the Hawks, recently highlighted the importance of communication in their recent success.
“The communication for us has been huge,” Johnson shared with reporters. “From the locker rooms to practice to halftime, the way we’re communicating with each other and everybody’s just speaking their mind.
I think it’s been really big for us. At the end of the day, we’re the guys on the court, so for us to have that communication on point and on a string, I think it has been really good.”
In basketball, as in life, communication can be a game-changer. The Hawks benefit from a blend of youthful energy and seasoned experience, bringing diverse perspectives to the table.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker has noticed a maturation in the team, attributing their current form to this growth.
“The focus, how tough we’re playing, even in the technical fouls, something as small as that, I don’t think we would have done in the first half of the season,” Alexander-Walker remarked. “Now we’re really starting to do that, and credit to everybody. I think this group is really starting to come together.”
The Hawks' surge couldn't be better timed as they aim to climb the Eastern Conference standings. While teams like the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic are also heating up, the Philadelphia 76ers are grappling with untimely injuries, potentially opening a path for the Hawks to advance.
Ultimately, the Hawks need to focus on what they can control: winning games and maintaining their momentum.
