Georgia CB Daniel Harris to Enter Transfer Portal Ahead of SEC Championship Push
As Georgia gears up for its biggest game of the season-the SEC Championship showdown against Alabama-there’s been a bit of roster movement in Athens. Defensive back Daniel Harris, a veteran presence in the secondary, has officially announced his intention to enter the transfer portal.
The news broke Sunday, and while it may have caught some fans off guard given the timing, it wasn’t entirely unexpected. Harris, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound cornerback, has seen his role diminish this season, and with the Bulldogs’ depth in the secondary, his path to playing time has grown increasingly narrow.
Harris has logged over 20 appearances during his time at Georgia, including 12 starts, and totaled 30 tackles and three pass deflections across his career. But this season, his impact has been minimal.
He’s recorded just seven tackles, with his last coming back in Week 3 during Georgia’s tight win over Tennessee. Since then, he’s been largely absent from the stat sheet, and his role on the defense has been limited.
With one year of eligibility remaining, Harris will be looking for a fresh start and a bigger opportunity elsewhere. Originally part of Georgia’s 2023 recruiting class, the Miami native arrived with plenty of buzz.
He was a 4-star recruit and ranked as the No. 19 cornerback in the nation, per the 247Sports Composite. Expectations were high, and while he showed flashes, Harris never quite carved out a consistent role in one of the country’s deepest defensive units.
For Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs, the focus remains squarely on Alabama and the SEC title. Georgia just wrapped up a rivalry win over Georgia Tech, and now all eyes are on Atlanta, where a win would likely punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff. Gunner Stockton and the Dawgs have put together a strong campaign, and the real test is just beginning.
As for Harris, his journey with Georgia may be over, but with his size, experience, and remaining eligibility, he’ll be an intriguing name to watch in the transfer portal. A new environment could be exactly what he needs to finish his college career on a high note.
