Zach Harrison Is Giving The Falcons A Tougher Decision Than Expected

Zach Harrison's timely fumble recovery and defensive prowess highlight his growing trustworthiness and pivotal role within the Falcons' strategy.

Zach Harrison keeps finding timely ways to matter for the Atlanta Falcons, and the latest came at exactly the right moment.

During Atlanta’s 31-23 loss to the Chicago Bears, Harrison recovered a fumble by Bears running back Roschon Johnson. The play helped the Falcons create a chance to make the game interesting after they had already dug themselves into a 24-point hole. Atlanta still came up short, but the recovery set up a score and the two-point try that trimmed the margin to one score.

For Harrison, the play added to a growing list of reasons the Falcons have to keep leaning on him. The 25-year-old has had to earn every bit of traction in Atlanta after the team waived him during roster cutdowns in August. He cleared waivers, landed on the practice squad, and eventually worked his way back onto the active roster.

That kind of climb makes each impact play count a little more. Harrison, a former third-round pick, has shown he can help in different ways even when the sacks aren’t coming in bunches. With a contract year ahead, those moments matter even more.

His production has started to stack up in different spots. Harrison logged five tackles and half a sack against the Baltimore Ravens in Week after recording just four tackles across his first three regular season appearances before that game.

He also made his presence felt earlier in the year against Green Bay. In Atlanta’s 35-14 win over the Packers on September 24, Harrison played 19 defensive snaps and five special teams snaps, finishing with a tackle for loss and a blocked 47-yard field goal attempt by Packers kicker Trey Smack.

That block stood out because it showed Harrison can tilt a game outside his usual defensive role. Head coach Kevin Stefanski pointed to the connection between blocked kicks and winning after that game.

Harrison’s path back wasn’t guaranteed. After being waived in August, he went unclaimed and spent 20 days on the practice squad before getting promoted. He later signed to the active roster after making an impression once he got back into game action.

Now the Ohio Satte product is part of the defensive line rotation as the Falcons try to get their season back on track.

Falcons Logo Backlash Just Turned Into A Brutal Fan Debate

A throwback logo post on the Falcons official X account sparked a wave of backlash after some fans pointed out its resemblance to the Imperial Eagle associated with Nazi Germany. What might have been a routine bit of nostalgia quickly turned into a messy social media debate, with the image drawing far more attention than the team probably intended.

The response was strong enough that Atlanta changed its X avatar soon after, even though the original post is still live. The reaction also split fans into two camps, with some insisting the comparison was overblown while others argued the decades-old mark was a bad look in the first place, leaving the team in the middle of an argument it did not set out to start. Falcons Get A Needed Boost As Injury Concerns Keep Growing

The Falcons got a little relief on the roster front before their Week 7 matchup with the 49ers, activating cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr. from injured reserve and bringing defensive end Drake Jackson onto the active roster. Atlanta also elevated running back Khalil Herbert and linebacker Brian Asamoah from the practice squad, giving the team some added depth as the injury list continues to grow around it.

Michael Jerrells move to injured reserve only underscored how much strain the Falcons are carrying up front, and the list of sidelined players still includes wide receiver Beaux Collins and offensive tackle Cameron Williams. Getting Terrell back helps on a defense that will need all the help it can get against San Francisco, but the bigger question is how much stability Atlanta can recover with so many moving parts still in flux. Falcons Catch A Break As 49ers Face A Serious Week 7 Problem

Nick Bosas absence is becoming one of the defining stories around San Franciscos week, and it matters in Atlanta too. The 49ers are already dealing with a serious injury situation, and head coach Kyle Shanahan said the team could be short of 48 healthy players for its upcoming matchup with the Falcons, a grim spot for any roster to be in this late in the week.

Bosa was originally hopeful he could work his way back after the calf injury he picked up in practice before Week 3, but the return never quite got there. Shanahan said a workout left him sore, which pushed the timeline back again and kept the star pass rusher on the sideline, leaving the Falcons with a little more room to breathe as they prepare for a San Francisco team trying to piece itself together.
