In a troubling series of events, WNBA star Rickea Jackson contacted the police multiple times concerning her ex-boyfriend, Atlanta Falcons linebacker James Pearce Jr., leading up to his arrest. The situation escalated when Pearce allegedly rammed his Lamborghini SUV into Jackson's car in Doral, Florida, resulting in a dramatic scene where six officers subdued him.
According to a police report obtained by ESPN, Jackson expressed growing concerns that she was being stalked and harassed by Pearce, even fearing he had attempted to break into her apartment. Though her name was not in the initial report, Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez confirmed her identity, and Jackson is prepared to testify if the case goes to trial.
The report details numerous police visits to a residence linked to Pearce's on-off relationship with Jackson. Despite repeated calls, no arrests were made during these visits, and the identities of the callers were kept confidential.
On January 28, during one of the police visits, Jackson identified Pearce as the subject of a domestic disturbance, expressing her desire for him not to enter her home. Her fear led her to temporarily relocate to a hotel. Earlier that day, police responded to a burglary call at the same property, with Jackson reportedly seeing Pearce leave before authorities arrived.
This was not the first incident. On November 24, Jackson alleged Pearce visited her property demanding entry due to a supposed $70,000 debt.
He left before police arrived. Additional incidents occurred on February 1 and 2, just before Pearce attended the NFL Honors, where he was nominated for Defensive Rookie of the Year.
These events have cast uncertainty over Pearce's NFL career at the conclusion of his rookie season. Despite the allegations, Pearce maintains his innocence.
In a pre-trial hearing, he was granted a $20,500 bond and ordered to stay away from Jackson. His attorney, Jacob Nunez, emphasized their commitment to uncovering the truth and defending Pearce's reputation.
The incident that led to Pearce's arrest unfolded on February 7. Jackson reported seeing Pearce's Lamborghini trailing her, and when she stopped at a red light, he allegedly tried to open her car door.
Fearing for her safety, Jackson drove towards the Doral Police Department, calling 911. Pearce then reportedly rear-ended her car, blocking her path to the station and colliding with her vehicle head-on.
When officers arrived, they attempted to detain Pearce, who resisted and fled, injuring an officer in the process. After a chase, Pearce crashed and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended. Despite resisting arrest, he was eventually taken into custody.
Pearce's legal team remains confident in their defense, urging the public to reserve judgment as they work with the State Attorney's office to fully investigate the case. The unfolding legal battle will determine the next chapter for both Pearce and Jackson.
