Eric Bieniemy’s family was hit by a devastating emergency Sunday night when his wife, Mia Bieniemy, was shot at their Virginia home.
According to reports, Loudoun County police responded to the residence in Ashburn around 7:32 p.m. and later confirmed that the victim was 57-year-old Mia Bieniemy. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and remains under close medical supervision as she recovers. Authorities have not released many details about what led to the gunfire, and detectives are still working to determine the circumstances.
The incident happened while Bieniemy was in Missouri taking part in team activities, far from the home where the shooting took place. The Chiefs issued a brief statement acknowledging the situation, but neither Bieniemy nor his family has made any official comments beyond that.
Bieniemy returned to the Kansas City Chiefs in January 2026 after leaving the team in February 2023 when his contract expired. He had gone on to become the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders before coming back to Kansas City. His return earlier this year put him back in the offensive coordinator role he previously used to help guide championship seasons.
For now, though, football has taken a back seat to a personal crisis. Kansas City training camp went on without him on Monday, and the organization has kept details private as the family deals with the aftermath.
