The Falcons’ Week 6 odds have nudged back toward Atlanta after the latest update on Michael Penix Jr.’s rib injury, a sign the market is taking the quarterback’s chances of playing seriously.
Penix hurt his ribs in Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens, but the injury is not expected to be a long-term problem. Atlanta is reportedly optimistic he’ll be available against the Chicago Bears, and that optimism has shown up in the betting line. DraftKings Sportsbook now lists the Falcons as three-point underdogs at home, after the spread opened with Atlanta as 1.5-point favorites before Sunday night’s loss.
The movement hasn’t been dramatic, but it has tilted a little back toward the Falcons over the last 24 hours. The Bears’ odds to cover have also shifted from -120 to -105, which lines up with the belief that Penix could still be on track to go in Week 6.
What’s more, bettors are starting to buy into Atlanta’s side. DraftKings says 55 percent of the moneyline bets and 56 percent of the spread bets are on the Falcons.
Penix’s status should become clearer when Wednesday’s practice report drops. That’ll be the first real checkpoint for his Week 6 availability, especially after he said Sunday night that if he had not been forced to sit at the start of overtime, he might have been able to keep playing. Still, he also made it clear the pain escalated.
The former first-round pick said the injury “just started to get worse and worse as we were sitting there.”
Atlanta has looked noticeably better with Penix at quarterback in 2026, going 2-1 in his three starts. The offense has climbed from the bottom of the league in EPA/Play to 18th, while also ranking eighth in success rate. Penix has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 719 yards, three touchdowns and one interception this season.
If he can get even a limited practice session in on Wednesday, that would point in a positive direction for his Week 6 status.

Lamar Jackson Update Changes How Falcons Fans May View Week 5
Lamar Jacksons absence in Baltimores Week 5 win over the Falcons helped shape the way that game was viewed on both sidelines, especially with the Ravens forced to go without their quarterback after he hurt his ankle in Week 4. Atlanta could at least take some comfort in knowing it didnt have to deal with Jackson on Sunday, even if the Falcons still had plenty to sort through from their own performance.
Now the situation has turned quickly toward Week 6, where Jacksons availability could change the tone of the Ravens next matchup and, by extension, how the Falcons loss or result in Baltimore gets judged in the coming days. Baltimores first injury report of the week arrives Wednesday, and that will be the first real checkpoint for anyone trying to figure out whether Jackson is trending back toward the field. Falcons Overtime Meltdown Looks Even Worse After Ravens Revelation
The Falcons overtime loss in Baltimore already looked like a brutal break in the standings, but the latest detail to surface made it sting a little more. On The Marlon Humphrey Show, Humphrey revealed that Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton had a hunch the moment Atlanta turned to backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in overtime, setting the stage for a sequence that now feels even more deflating for the Falcons.
Atlantas first possession of overtime ended the way the Ravens hoped it would, with Hamilton coming up with the interception that sealed Baltimores 30-23 victory. For the Falcons, its another reminder of how quickly an extra period can turn, and for the Ravens, it only adds to the sense that their secondary had read the situation before the ball was even snapped. Mike Hughes Is Forcing A Falcons Decision They Can't Delay
Mike Hughes has become one of those defensive questions the Falcons cant keep working around. He has brought some value as a tackler and against the run, but opposing offenses have found him too often in coverage, turning his side of the field into a place they want to attack. For a team trying to stabilize its secondary, that kind of imbalance has a way of forcing hard conversations faster than coaches usually prefer.
The Falcons do have alternatives, which is why the pressure keeps building on this spot. C.J. Henderson and rookie Avieon Terrell have both given the team reasons to think the outside cornerback picture could look better with a change, and at some point performance has to outweigh familiarity. Hughes may still fit in certain roles, but the longer the coverage issues continue, the harder it gets for Atlanta to justify keeping the current setup intact. [Read more 🡒]
