The Carolina Panthers left Atlanta with a 34-3 win, but the play people kept replaying Monday had nothing to do with Bryce Young’s big day or Devin Lloyd’s takeover on defense.
Instead, it was the late hit after the whistle that drew the attention. With a little more than three minutes left in the third quarter and Carolina already up 27-3, the Falcons were facing third-and-2 near midfield.
Atlanta never got the first down, and after the play ended, a Panthers defender - identified from the broadcast angle as Trevis Gipson Sr. - left his feet and drove a full wrestling elbow into the pile. Matthew Bergeron and Chris Lindstrom were already on the ground when the contact came.
It was the kind of sequence that can turn ugly fast, especially in a game that was already well out of reach. White jerseys immediately reacted, and the moment quickly spread around because of how unnecessary it looked. The result gave Carolina a fourth straight win in the series, and Young is now 5-1 against Atlanta. The Panthers have scored at least 30 points in each of the last four meetings, and the teams are scheduled to meet again in 2026. Dave Canales said afterward he was focused on the team’s response after the Chicago loss, not the extra-curricular moment that followed on Sunday.
