Falcons Just Turned An Old Rivalry Into A Real NFC South Debate

The Atlanta Falcons delivered a commanding performance against the New Orleans Saints, underscoring their re-emergence as NFC South contenders with key contributions from standout players.

The Falcons walked into a charged New Orleans building and took the air out of it early. On the 20-year anniversary of the Superdome’s reopening, Atlanta made sure the celebration didn’t last long, and Bijan Robinson set the tone on the third offensive snap by rolling right down the field for a seven-point lead the Falcons never gave back.

That kind of fast start has become a theme, and so has the way Atlanta is getting there. Tommy Rees deserves plenty of credit for the way this offense has come together over the past two weeks.

After the first two games, plenty of people had already written him off, and Kevin Stefanski’s choice to hire him looked like a buddy-buddy move. Since his quarterback returned, though, the Falcons have looked like the best offense in football over the last two weeks.

Rees hasn’t tried to be clever for the sake of it. He’s willing to pound the ball ten straight times if that’s what the game calls for, and that approach has helped get Penix Jr. into a rhythm.

The ground game keeps giving Atlanta answers, and Brian Robinson Jr. has fit right in. The Falcons didn’t lose anything when they moved from Tyler Allgeier to Brian Robinson Jr.

He’s been a bowling ball, the kind of back Stefanski can trust when he wants to give his other runner a breather. His final touchdown run summed up the whole night.

The defense had its own standouts, starting with Harold Perkins Jr. Saints fans have to be tired of watching former LSU linebackers wreck things in their own stadium.

Deion Jones did it before him, and now it’s Perkins. The sixth-round rookie posted 10 tackles, a QB hit, a pass defense, and a half sack.

The play he made down the sideline against a running back showed exactly what he can bring.

C.J. Henderson kept building on what he did a week earlier.

Another matchup, another huge night, another stat-filled performance from the former top-10 pick. After finishing last week with eight tackles, he followed it up with 10 tackles, a pass defense, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

It’s been an incredible career revival, and once AJ Terrell returns, this secondary is going to look awfully strong.

Not everyone had a clean night, though. Olamide Zaccheaus is still waiting for his return to really get going.

The targets haven’t been there, the production hasn’t either, and that’s a little surprising for a receiver who has been so useful on vital downs. Against the Saints, he got just one target and dropped it.

Even so, his energy on the sideline late in the game stood out.

The biggest loser may have been the rest of the NFC South. Two weeks in a row, Atlanta has delivered a beating and never let the opponent sniff a comeback.

It all starts with the run game, and when the Falcons have needed to run it, they haven’t come up short. Right now, they look like genuine division threats, and the Panthers are the only team that seems capable of challenging them.

Carolina did beat this same group in Week 2, but this version of Atlanta is clearly something different.

Falcons Just Added Backfield Depth Fans May Want To Track

The Falcons added another name to the backfield mix this week, signing running back Jam Miller to the practice squad while moving on from Cash Jones to clear the roster spot. It is the kind of small transaction that can matter later, especially for a team that keeps an eye on depth at running back throughout the season.

Miller arrives with an unusual backstory for a midseason addition. He was originally drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft, but an injury led to his release before the season began. After working his way back, he reportedly stood out in a workout for Atlanta and now gets a chance to show whether that look can turn into something more. [Read more 🡒]

Saints Domecoming Disaster Got Even More Disturbing In The Stands

The Falcons left the Caesars Superdome with a lopsided win, but the day carried a heavier emotional backdrop than a normal rivalry game. The matchup marked 20 years since the first Saints game back after Hurricane Katrina, and instead of a celebratory homecoming, the building turned tense as New Orleans absorbed a 45-24 loss and slid to 1-3 on the season.

The unease in the stands only added to the mood. During the game, a Saints fan fell on the steep steps in the 600 level, though he appeared conscious and was helped by nearby fans, a jarring scene inside a stadium that was already hearing plenty of frustration from the home crowd. The Saints are still winless at home, and after another rough afternoon, the pressure around the team is starting to feel as loud as the disappointment in the seats. [Read more 🡒]

Drake London Said Exactly What Falcons Fans Love About Beating The Saints

The Falcons had the Saints in a familiar spot by halftime, up 24-7 and well in control, but the lead only kept growing from there. By the end of the game, Atlanta had pushed the margin to 31 points, a reminder that this rivalry still carries plenty of edge when the Falcons get rolling.

Drake London was right in the middle of it, finishing with five catches for 96 yards and again looking like one of Michael Penix Jr.'s most reliable targets. He also spoke to the extra motivation behind Atlanta's continued push to score, tying it back to a previous Saints moment involving Jameis Winston, which only added another layer to a win Falcons fans will happily savor.
