Falcons Fans Should Track These Weekend Matchups For A Reason

As the Atlanta Falcons seek to capitalize on their recent winning streak, key college games this weekend hold crucial insights into potential 2027 draft prospects for the team.

Falcons fans who are already thinking ahead to the 2027 NFL Draft have a pretty good Saturday menu in front of them, and it starts with the biggest games on the board. Atlanta is headed into its third primetime game in as many weeks on Sunday night against the Ravens, but the college slate is where the draft homework really gets interesting.

That matters even more with the Falcons riding a two-game winning streak. They’re no longer locked into the top of the 2027 draft order, which only raises the stakes on hitting later picks. Ian Cunningham and the Falcons’ brass will have scouts scattered all over the country, and this weekend gives them - and the rest of us - a strong watch list.

The headliner is No. 2 Georgia at No.

6 Alabama at 7:30 p.m. on ABC, and it’s impossible to leave that one out. These two programs keep feeding the NFL year after year, and this matchup has the kind of talent density that makes it essential viewing.

Georgia’s top defensive names are hard to miss: safety KJ Bolden, linebacker Chris Cole and cornerback Ellis Robinson IV are all expected to be first-round picks this April. The Bulldogs also have later-round offensive talent, including running back Nate Frazier.

Alabama has its own stack of prospects. Keelon Russell is leading the offense, though he isn’t draft-eligible until 2028.

The Tide also have wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams and pass-rusher Yhonzae Pierre projected to go in the top 50, with safeties Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard also in the mix later on. And with a massive storm expected to hit the game, the whole thing could turn chaotic fast.

No. 21 UCLA at No.

13 Oregon at 3:30 p.m. on CBS is another one to circle. Oregon has become one of the sport’s steady NFL talent pipelines, and this year’s group is loaded again.

Dante Moore won’t play because of a concussion, so former five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola - described as a Patrick Mahomes clone - will get the start after transferring from Nebraska this offseason.

There’s plenty beyond the quarterback spot. Jamarri Johnson, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound tight end, has emerged after taking over as the TE1 for Kenyon Sadiq.

On the defensive line, Bear Alexander, Matayo Uiagaleilei and A’Auri Washington are all top 2027 names to know. Evan Stewart has also been productive now that he’s healthy, and Koi Perich has stepped in well at safety for Dillon Theieneman.

UCLA brings its own draft angle. The Bruins have been one of the more pleasant surprises in Year 1 under Bob Chesney, and Nico Iamaleava is trying to get himself back on NFL radars after a rough 2025 season. He still has the kind of upside that could make Autzen the kind of stage where he turns heads again.

Then there’s No. 1 Texas at Oklahoma at 3:30 p.m. on ABC, the rivalry game that might end up carrying the most pressure of the bunch.

Texas came out of the Ohio State win looking strong, but the last couple of weeks haven’t gone nearly as smoothly. Oklahoma hasn’t been much better, which only adds to the tension in the Red River Rivalry.

Arch Manning is the biggest name to watch here, and he needs to show scouts he still belongs in the No. 1 pick conversation. Cam Coleman also hasn’t been featured much since transferring from Austin. Texas is packed with future pro talent, and this matchup will put a lot of that group under the microscope.

Coleman and Ryan Wingo are set to see plenty of Oklahoma’s Eli and Peyton Bowen in coverage, while the Sooners’ defensive line - led by David Stone, a consensus top-10 prospect, and Jayden Jackson - will try to make life miserable for Arch. That puts Texas tackles Melvin Siani and Trevor Goosby in a huge spot, and for Atlanta, that’s especially useful with left tackle still a concern.

Falcons Suddenly Face A Defensive Depth Test Before Ravens Showdown

The Falcons defense took another hit this week as the team worked to keep enough bodies available for Sunday Night Football against the Ravens. Atlanta signed safety Jammie Robinson to the 53-man roster and elevated defensive ends Bralen Trice and Drake Jackson from the practice squad, a set of moves that underscores how quickly the depth chart has thinned heading into a difficult prime-time matchup.

Those adjustments became necessary after linebacker Yasir Abdullah landed on injured reserve with a hamstring issue, while ZaDarius Smith was ruled out for the Baltimore game. For a defense already trying to manage its rotation and match up with a high-powered opponent, the timing leaves Atlanta piecing together answers on the fly, with the next wave of available pass rush help and back-end flexibility now carrying more weight than usual. Falcons Winning Streak Just Raised A Big Trade Deadline Question

Atlantas two-game bounce-back has changed the feel around the building after an 0-2 start, and it has also nudged the front office conversation in a different direction as the trade deadline draws closer. A Bleacher Report piece by Kristopher Knox put veteran defensive end Jadeveon Clowney in the mix as the kind of pass-rush help a team on the rise might consider, and his early-season production in Houston has kept his name on the radar.

The appeal is obvious for a Falcons team trying to build on its recent surge without losing sight of the bigger picture. Clowney has been active in two games this season, and with the deadline approaching, Atlanta is the sort of team that has to weigh whether a push for immediate help is worth the cost. Houston would be the club to move him, and the market could get interesting quickly if the Falcons decide they want to make a stronger play. [Read more 🡒]

Falcons Secondary Faces An Uncomfortable Test Against Zay Flowers

The Falcons secondary has spent the first month of the season giving opponents room to work through the air, and now it draws another tough assignment in a Week 5 trip to Baltimore. Even with the Ravens adjusting at quarterback, the matchup still has plenty of bite for Atlantas defense because the challenge is less about one passer and more about handling a passing game that can stress coverages in different ways.

Zay Flowers is the name that jumps off the page for the Falcons, especially with Baltimore likely leaning on him as a featured option. Atlanta has been vulnerable enough already that every route concept matters, and Flowers brings the kind of speed and separation ability that can turn a routine drive into a problem in a hurry. How the Falcons handle him may say as much about this defense as anything else in the early season. [Read more 🡒]
