The Atlanta Falcons are making waves in the NFL coaching carousel, setting their sights on Ole Miss's co-defensive coordinator, Patrick Toney. The Falcons are eyeing Toney for the role of defensive pass game coordinator, a move that could bring fresh energy to their defensive strategies.
Toney, who recently joined Ole Miss as a defensive coordinator, didn't call plays for the Rebels-a factor that might be influencing his potential move to Atlanta. His coaching journey has been impressive, with a stint as the Arizona Cardinals' defensive backs coach from 2023 to 2025.
Before that, he sharpened his skills at Florida under head coach Billy Napier, following him from Louisiana where Toney spent four years on the defensive staff, including two as coordinator. His resume also includes experience at Southeastern Louisiana, Sam Houston State, and UTSA, where he worked under Pete Golding.
If Toney decides to head to the Falcons, Ole Miss still has Bryan Brown, an alum and co-defensive coordinator, steering the defense. Brown, whose title is head coach of the defense, could either take full reins or work alongside a new hire. Brown's background includes roles at Cincinnati and Louisville, showcasing his capability to lead a defense.
The Falcons, meanwhile, are in the midst of a significant restructuring under new head coach Kevin Stefanski. In a surprising move, they parted ways with defensive lines coach LaTroy Lewis just two weeks after his hiring due to serious allegations from his past. This shakeup signals a fresh start and a new direction for the Falcons' coaching staff.
