Raheem Morris may no longer be running the Falcons, but he still managed to reshape their roster in a way that ended with Atlanta giving Bralen Trice another shot.
The sequence started with Khalid Kareem. Atlanta had been juggling its practice squad spots earlier this week and brought Kareem back after he appeared in four games for the Falcons in 2025.
He had also visited the team last week. That reunion didn’t last long, though, because Morris - now the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers - signed Kareem away from Atlanta’s practice squad and onto the 49ers’ active roster before their Week 1 game in Melbourne against the Rams.

That move opened a spot, and Atlanta used it to bring back Bralen Trice, one of the biggest what-ifs from Morris’ first draft class as head coach in 2024.
Trice was taken in the third round out of Washington, but injuries have kept his NFL career from ever getting started. He tore his ACL in the preseason as a rookie, then re-aggravated the same knee last summer.
He also got hurt again in training camp, though he has since returned to full strength. Atlanta cut him on roster release day because of the injury concerns, even after keeping just three edge rushers on the initial 53-man roster: Za’Darius Smith, Samson Ebukam, and Cameron Thomas.

Trice’s return didn’t happen immediately, with Atlanta waiting a couple of days before bringing him back, possibly to give him time to consider other opportunities. But once Kareem was gone, the Falcons filled that opening with Trice on the practice squad.
Trice is now in position to potentially force his way back into the mix. With Jalon Walker out for the season and James Pearce Jr. suspended, Atlanta’s EDGE group - which also includes the three and Jared Ivey - could be thin enough to put Trice in line for a game-day elevation sooner rather than later. If that happens, the former All-Pac 12 nomination could finally show the upside he flashed in college.
So in a strange bit of roster chain reaction, Morris helped clear the path, Kareem lost his spot, and Trice got another lifeline with the Falcons. How he handles it is the next question.
