Matt LaFleur didn’t sugarcoat it after the Packers were beaten 35-14 by the Falcons on Thursday Night Football. Green Bay’s offense, as he sees it, is still searching for an identity.
“We gotta continue to work with these guys and try to figure out what we do well. Because right now, I don't know what we're doing well offensively,” LaFleur said after the game when asked about fixing the offensive line.
That line summed up the night for the Packers. The protection issues showed up again, with Atlanta’s defense producing 15 quick pressures, according to Next Gen Stats. That was the second-most any team has given up this season, behind only Green Bay’s 17 pressures allowed in the opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
The running game didn’t offer much relief either. Green Bay managed only 17 rushing yards against Atlanta, and the Packers’ season total now sits at 146. Bijan Robinson topped that by himself, piling up 194 rushing yards in the Falcons’ win.
Jordan Love was forced into a heavy workload, throwing 53 passes, the second-most he has ever attempted in a game. He finished 52.8% for 312 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. When pressure came, the numbers got even rougher: Love completed 8 of 21 passes for 71 yards and an interception on pressured dropbacks.
“Something we'll look at,” Love said when asked what the offense is doing well this season. “See what plays we're running well and go from that.”
Through three weeks, the Packers’ 56 points and minus-0.10 EPA/play are their lowest marks in the LaFleur era, according to TruMedia. They’ve also lost two of their three games by 17 points or more, the first time since 2017 that Green Bay has dropped multiple games by at least 17 in a full season.
Green Bay is now 1-2 and heads to Tampa Bay in Week 4 to face the Buccaneers.
