The Falcons have spent much of this offseason hunting for value, and that approach has opened the door for Olamide Zaccheaus to matter more than a typical backup wideout.
Atlanta’s cap situation pushed the team toward veteran-minimum deals, and that group included a pair of familiar returns in Zaccheaus and tight end Austin Hooper. Both are expected to fill reserve roles, but the Falcons’ thin receiver room gives Zaccheaus a real chance to play well beyond that label.
That reality showed up in ESPN’s 2026 “All-Backup Team,” where Bill Barnwell included Zaccheaus and made the case that he fits as more than just a depth piece.
"Zaccheaus is an ideal third wide receiver," wrote Bill Barnwell. "Yes, 2025 wasn't his most productive season in terms of yardage, but the well-traveled veteran is one of the league's best blocking wide receivers and is effective just enough as a pass catcher to justify staying on the field.
With the Falcons likely living in 12 personnel in 2026, Zaccheaus will be playing behind Jahan Dotson across from Drake London this season. Don't be surprised if he is moved ahead of Dotson by the time the season ends."
That assessment lines up with Atlanta’s roster picture. Outside of Drake London, the team’s $141 million man, Zaccheaus is the most experienced receiver on the roster. Across seven NFL seasons, he has 188 catches, 2,311 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.
Dotson arrived with a much better free-agent contract, but he still has to show he can be more than a third or fourth option. Zaccheaus, meanwhile, should open the season in the slot, though rookie Zachariah Branch is also expected to be part of the mix.
Branch, a third-round pick out of Georgia, already stood out during minicamp and will try to keep that momentum going when camp opens next week. The rookies report to training camp on Friday, July 24, with veterans set to join on Tuesday, July 28. Atlanta’s first practice is scheduled for Wednesday, July 29.
