Drake London’s jaw-dropping grab at joint practice was the kind of play that stops everyone in the building for a beat.
On Wednesday, Aug. 19, the Falcons wideout hauled in a Julio Jones-style catch over Colts cornerback Justin Walley during the opening joint practice between Atlanta and Indianapolis. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa put the ball up for the 6-foot-4 receiver, London went skyward to bring it down, and then punctuated the moment by punting the ball into the air in celebration.
The clip took off fast, drawing nearly 55,000 likes and more than 29,000 shares on the Falcons’ official Instagram page.
On Thursday, Aug. 20, Kevin Stefanski was asked about the viral play in Indianapolis and didn’t need much time to appreciate it.
“Pretty good catch,” Stefanski told reporters in Indianapolis on Thursday, Aug. 20.
“That’s his ability to just play the football in the air, body control, obviously strong hands. So that was a great catch.”
Stefanski also pointed to what makes London such a tough cover in those situations: the way his game translates above the rim.
“I think Drake’s skillset, he can do many things, and one of the things he can do is elevate to get the football or be able to play it,” Stefanski said. “With his background in basketball, just his body control is elite. So understanding how Drake wins, where he wants the football, there’s a lot of conversation that happens between the players in this case, which I think is also valuable.”
That basketball background has been part of London’s story for a while. At Moorpark High School in California, he was a three-star basketball prospect who averaged 29.2 points and 11.9 rebounds as a shooting guard. That dual-sport talent earned him a chance to play football at USC and also join the basketball team as a technical walk-on.
London played both sports as a freshman at USC, then stepped away from basketball midway through the 2019-2020 season to focus entirely on football. The move paid off when Atlanta took him with the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Since then, London has grown into one of the league’s top receivers. His peers ranked him 66th among NFL players ahead of the 2026 season, and in June the Falcons locked him in on a four-year, $141 million contract.
Atlanta, which is 0-1, heads to Indianapolis for Week 2 of the preseason on Saturday, Aug. 22.
The Colts are 0-0-1. Kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium is set for 1 p.m. and will air locally in Atlanta on FOX 5.
London likely won’t play, with Stefanski planning to rest his starters.

Falcons Fans Just Got Another Reason To Revisit The Darnell Mooney Move
The Falcons moved on from Darnell Mooney earlier this offseason, then pivoted by bringing in Jahan Dotson to fill the WR2 spot, a swap that made Atlantas receiver reshuffle one of the more notable roster decisions of the summer. Mooney, meanwhile, landed a one-year deal with the New York Giants, a fresh start that was supposed to give him a chance to re-establish his value in a new offense.
Instead, his standing in New York has already become part of the conversation, with Mooney sitting behind other receivers on the depth chart and the Giants reportedly weighing trade options. For Falcons fans, it is another little reminder that the teams choice to move on was not just about making room for Dotson, but about betting the receiving room could look different very quickly if the market and the roster both keep shifting. Michael Penix Jrs Recovery Just Raised The Stakes In Atlantas QB Race
Michael Penix Jr. is moving through the next phase of his recovery from a knee injury, and the timing matters more now because Atlanta still has not settled its quarterback decision for the season. He has been working in 7-on-7 drills, but full participation is still waiting on a doctors clearance, leaving the Falcons in a holding pattern as they sort through the competition under center.
Tua Tagovailoa is currently leading the race, but Penix remains very much in the mix if he gets the green light soon enough to get back into 11-on-11 work. For Atlanta, the appeal is obvious: the longer Penix stays in position to push, the more pressure there is on the staff to weigh not just health, but timing, readiness and how much practice time he can still bank before the season arrives. Former Falcons Star Kroy Biermann Faces A Painful Family Spotlight
A troubling family development has pushed former Falcons linebacker Kroy Biermann back into the spotlight, this time for reasons far removed from football. His son, Kroy Biermann Jr., was arrested and is being held without bond after facing aggravated sodomy and aggravated sexual battery charges, according to the available facts. The alleged incident is said to have taken place on April 23, 2026, in a Lifetime Fitness changing room, adding another difficult chapter for a family that has long lived in public view.
Biermann Jr. was arraigned on Aug. 17, 2026, with attorney Jason Sheffield listed as his representative. For Falcons fans who remember Kroy Biermann as a steady defensive presence during his Atlanta years, the case is a stark and painful reminder of how quickly an athletes post-career life can be overshadowed by personal turmoil around him.
