The Atlanta Falcons are charting a fresh course for the 2026-27 season under the guidance of head coach Kevin Stefanski, and it’s clear that quarterback Kirk Cousins won’t be part of the journey.
Falcons GM Ian Cunningham made it official, stating, “I did talk to Kirk and his representation to let them know we will release him on the first day of the league year (March 11).”
Cousins was halfway through a hefty four-year, $180 million contract. His performance in Atlanta wasn’t shabby, boasting a 12-10 record as a starter with 5,229 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. Yet, at 37, the Falcons are looking to the future, seeking someone to back up-or perhaps challenge-Michael Penix Jr. when he makes his comeback from an ACL injury next season.
Cousins still proved he could deliver, showcasing his arm in Week 15 against Tampa Bay with 373 yards and three touchdowns, no picks. That marked his 30th career game with at least 300 yards and three passing touchdowns. Now, here’s a challenge for you: can you name the NFL quarterbacks who have achieved at least 10 games with such impressive stats?
Good luck!
