Blake Treinen’s 2025 season is done before the Dodgers even get to October.
The Los Angeles right-hander suffered a shoulder injury while warming up in the bullpen Saturday in San Francisco, and manager Dave Roberts said Treinen will not pitch again this season.
It’s a harsh ending for a pitcher who had only just worked his way back. Treinen, 38, returned earlier this month after dealing with inflammation in his right elbow, an issue that kept him sidelined for all of July and August.
He got into seven games after coming back, giving up three earned runs across 6.2 innings. For the season, he finishes 4-1 with a 3.64 ERA in 29.2 innings.
Treinen has been a familiar presence in the Dodgers’ bullpen for a while now. The veteran has spent the last six seasons in Los Angeles and has logged 222 regular-season games for the club, going 23-20 with a 2.88 ERA. He has mostly worked in a setup role and was averaging more than a strikeout per inning this year.
His injury also chips away at what the Dodgers can count on in the late innings as the postseason approaches.
Treinen is one of the few Dodgers who has been around for all three of the franchise’s World Series titles this decade. He threw 2.1 scoreless innings in Game 5 of the 2024 World Series and earned the win in the championship-clinching victory over the New York Yankees.
A 12-year MLB veteran, Treinen is set to hit free agency after the season. That, along with his age and injury history, leaves his future with the Dodgers - or anywhere else - very much up in the air. He owns a career record of 49-42 with a 2.94 ERA and 83 saves.
