Arthur Blank Just Entered A Debate Falcons Fans Didn't Expect

Arthur Blank, owner of the Atlanta Falcons, breaks with the traditional political leanings of his NFL peers by making rare donations to prominent Democrats, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

NFL owners have mostly kept their checkbooks pointed in one direction this cycle, but Arthur Blank just made himself a clear outlier.

The Atlanta Falcons owner gave $3,500 to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s reelection campaign, according to a new report.

Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described democratic socialist, is widely viewed as a possible 2028 presidential contender. Blank has also put $300,000 toward Democrats’ effort to win back the Senate.

Front Office Sports, which reviewed Federal Election Commission records, reported that NFL owners have spent more than $18 million on midterm candidates and committees, and “nearly all of it has gone to Republicans.”

That spending has included some massive checks from the league’s biggest names. Broncos co-owner Rob Walton has given nearly $9 million to Republican candidates and committees, while Cowboys owner Jerry Jones contributed $1 million to Donald Trump’s MAGA Inc.

Blank’s donation to Ocasio-Cortez stands out because very few owners have moved heavily toward Democrats in this election cycle. Front Office Sports called it “an extreme rarity for an NFL owner.”

A spokesperson for Blank confirmed the donations but declined to comment further.

Blank’s political giving wasn’t limited to Democrats, either. He also donated $3,500 to former NFL kicker Jay Feely, who spent four of his 14 NFL seasons in Atlanta and is now running as a Republican for a House seat in Arizona.

Only one other owner has given large sums to Democrats this cycle: new Seattle Seahawks owner Vinod Khosla, who donated $2 million to the Democrats’ Senate arm.

Jessie Bates Is Closing In On Rare Falcons History

Jessie Bates III keeps finding ways to tilt games in Atlantas favor, and his latest showing against the 49ers was another reminder of how valuable he has become to the Falcons defense. He came away with an interception and then helped finish off the game with a forced fumble, the kind of all-around impact that has made him one of the steadiest playmakers on the roster this season.

The performance also pushed Bates closer to rare NFL history, adding to a career pattern of game-changing outings that has become more common than his Pro Bowl rsum might suggest. He remains one of the leagues better safeties by the numbers as well, sitting near the top of the position group in PFF grading, which only adds to the case that his impact in Atlanta has been bigger than the accolades have shown. Falcons Rookies Just Made Divine Deablos Future A Real Question

Divine Deablos season has already taken a turn the Falcons did not want to see, with injuries and uneven play sending the linebacker to injured reserve. For a defense that has tried to sort out its identity all year, the bigger issue now is what his absence has revealed: Atlanta has found younger options who are not just filling snaps, but making a real case to stay in the mix.

Kendal Daniels and Harold Perkins Jr. have both flashed enough in Deablos place to make the roster conversation more complicated for the front office. With those rookies giving the Falcons production and flexibility, Deablos future in Atlanta looks increasingly uncertain, especially if the team decides its money is better spent elsewhere. Falcons Offense Forced The 49ers Into A Deadline Response

Atlantas win over San Francisco did more than hand the 49ers their first loss of the season. The Falcons controlled enough of the afternoon in a 29-20 result to expose a problem the 49ers could not ignore, especially in the way their front struggled to consistently generate pressure on the quarterback.

San Francisco answered quickly, making a deadline-style move to reinforce the middle of its defense after the game. The timing said plenty about how much the Falcons offense had to do with the urgency, even with Nick Bosa unavailable and Atlanta able to keep Michael Penix Jr. clean long enough to stay on schedule.
