The Falcons’ search for cornerback help after A.J. Terrell’s groin injury set off a chain reaction that ended with Kenny Moore landing on the Eagles’ practice squad.
Terrell was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after getting hurt in the Week 2 loss to the Panthers, and Atlanta moved quickly to patch the hole in its secondary. That led the Falcons to sign cornerback Robert Longerbeam off Philadelphia’s practice squad, opening a spot the Eagles used to add Moore.
Moore, a 31-year-old Pro Bowl corner, is set to sign with the Eagles’ practice squad on a one-year deal worth up to $3 million, according to the report cited in the source. He had requested his release from the Colts and spent the summer unemployed before Philadelphia brought him in.
There were other teams in the mix, but the Eagles had a few clear advantages. Moore already knows Nick Sirianni from their overlapping time in Indianapolis, Philadelphia is expected to make better use of his versatility than some of the other suitors, and he gets to join a team viewed as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
The Eagles also have injuries of their own, with Cooper DeJean and Andrew Mukuba both sidelined, and the plan is reportedly to use Moore as both a nickel corner and a safety. Keeping him on the practice squad for now also gives him a chance to settle in after being out all summer.
For Atlanta, the move for Longerbeam came after he had been released by the Ravens during roster cuts and spent the last three weeks in Philadelphia. The former Rutgers team captain and 2025 sixth-round pick now gets another shot with the Falcons, even if he was never likely to crack the Eagles’ roster.
And while Atlanta’s current cornerback group - Mike Hughes, C.J. Henderson, Avieon Terrell, Billy Bowman Jr. once he returns, Malcolm DeWalt IV and Mike Ford Jr. - is thin, the Terrell injury has already produced a ripple effect that tied the Falcons and Eagles together again.
It may not have been the plan, but Atlanta’s move opened the door for Philadelphia to make the kind of veteran addition it preferred all along.
