Braves Snag Odd Last Minute Waiver Name You Did Not Expect

The Braves execute a strategic move reclaiming versatile pitcher Osvaldo Bido, capitalizing on roster adjustments amid a flurry of offseason transactions.

The waiver wire can be a rollercoaster in the MLB, and the Atlanta Braves have been riding it all offseason. It's a strategic game where teams try to sneak players through waivers, hoping to stash them in the minors, only to watch them get picked up by another team. This has been the case with Osvaldo Bido, a swingman who’s been on quite the journey.

Back in December, the Braves initially claimed Bido off waivers from the A's. But when they re-signed Ha-Seong Kim, Bido was designated for assignment to make room. From there, Bido became a hot commodity, bouncing around the league through multiple waiver claims.

Now, after being DFA'd by the Yankees, Bido finds himself back with the Braves. Atlanta, dealing with a pitching depth crisis, claimed him once more after Joey Wentz's ACL injury opened up a spot.

The Braves announced: “The #Braves today claimed RHP Osvaldo Bido off waivers from the New York Yankees, and placed LHP Joey Wentz on the 60-day injured list with a right knee ACL tear.”

The Braves’ pitching staff is in a precarious position. They've lost key arms like Spencer Schwellenbach, Hurston Waldrep, and Spencer Strider, making Bido's versatility valuable. Despite his unimpressive numbers, Bido's ability to start or provide multi-inning relief is crucial, especially if he can return to form in limiting hard contact.

As for the Braves' plans with Bido, it's a bit of a waiting game. He doesn’t have minor league options, which complicates things, but Atlanta clearly has a strategy in mind. We might not see how he fits into the roster until the Braves’ regular season games begin on Friday.
