Braves Fans Will Love The Pitcher Suddenly Tied To Atlanta

Could Gavin Williams be lured to the Braves, or is his future firmly rooted with the Guardians despite recent social media buzz?

The Atlanta Braves keep getting tossed into the rumor mill, but this one looks more like Instagram banter than anything real.

After Atlanta’s disappointing NLDS loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Braves have been linked to star names, including Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager. Now Cleveland Guardians pitcher Gavin Williams has been pulled into the mix too, thanks to a comment under his Instagram post.

Following the Guardians’ elimination to the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALCS, Williams posted, “See you next year Cleveland❤️”

A user named fireman 1231_ then chimed in with, “Nahhh he's coming to ATL, I'm on the phone right now with em,” and Williams liked the comment.

That like was almost certainly just Williams acknowledging a joke from the fan, not a hint that he’s headed to Atlanta.

And in practical terms, a move to the Braves looks extremely unlikely. Williams is under team control through 2029 and won’t reach free agency until 2030. Even then, there’s no guarantee he gets there, since he is a Scott Boras client and could land a long-term deal before free agency arrives.

The Guardians, meanwhile, will have plenty of reason to keep building around him. Williams was a key part of Cleveland’s rotation this season, going 14-8 with a 3.76 ERA. He also turned in a strong postseason, posting a 2.16 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 16.2 innings across four appearances, including three starts and one relief outing.

So while Braves fans can dream, the reality is that Williams looks far more like a Cleveland piece than a trade target - no matter what some dude in the comments section says.

Braves Face Two Roster Decisions They Cant Afford To Miss

Chris Sale gave the Braves exactly the kind of season they hoped for in 2024, and that matters because the pitching picture does not get any simpler from here. The rotation needs more depth heading toward 2027, while the rest of the staff still has to account for health concerns that can reshape a plan in a hurry. For a team trying to stay ahead of the curve, those are the kinds of roster questions that cant be brushed aside until spring.

The bigger squeeze may come on the position-player side, where several spots have lagged behind and shortstop in particular stands out as an unresolved issue. Atlanta has to decide whether to lock in one look there or preserve the flexibility that has helped it cover ground elsewhere, and the choice carries real consequences for the rest of the roster construction. At the same time, the bullpen picture is not settled either, with one veteran reliever looming as a key decision in what could be a very expensive balancing act. [Read more 🡒]

Braves Could Soon Face A Surprising Ozzie Albies Decision

The Braves have already mapped out part of their long-term picture with Ronald Acua Jr., whose club options for 2027 and 2028 are expected to be picked up. Ozzie Albies fits into a different kind of planning conversation, but he remains part of the same future-facing equation as Atlanta weighs what to do with a core player who has been a steady presence and delivered in October.

Albies postseason work only strengthened his case inside the organization, yet the front office could still end up facing a tougher call than expected. Trading him would require the Braves to balance roster fit and payroll concerns, and the timing makes the decision especially tricky as they look ahead to the next offseason. [Read more 🡒]

Braves Bullpen Search Could Get Interesting With One Dodgers Lefty

The Braves bullpen search has already started to take shape, and one left-handed option could make the market a little more intriguing. Atlanta has room to look for late-inning help and a specialist who can handle lefty-heavy pockets, which is why a familiar arm from Los Angeles is worth tracking as the offseason develops.

Alex Vesia has built a case as the type of reliever contenders covet, especially for a team that wants more balance in its bullpen mix. His effectiveness against left-handed hitters stood out again last season, but for now there is still no official deal in place, leaving Atlantas plans in that lane open a little longer. [Read more 🡒]
