Braves Face A Tough Bullpen Decision Fans Know Too Well

Despite Adrian Morejon's promising performance, the Braves should think twice before prioritizing him over more pressing roster needs this offseason.

The Braves are going to have bullpen names on their offseason board, and Adrian Morejon fits that profile almost too neatly.

The Padres left-hander put together a strong 2026 season, and the numbers explain why Atlanta would be interested. Over 86 innings, Morejon posted a 2.83 ERA with 28 holds, three saves, 28 walks and 107 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .205 against him, and he allowed only four home runs all year.

He was especially sharp against left-handed hitters, holding them to a .180/.234/.227 line. That worked out to a .460 OPS, along with seven walks and 39 strikeouts. On paper, that’s exactly the kind of dependable bullpen arm a team would want.

But for the Braves, the case against the move is really about where the money should go.

Morejon did have some splits that stand out. He was better at home than on the road, with a 1.90 ERA at home compared to 3.96 away.

He also wasn’t quite as effective against right-handed hitters as he was against lefties. Still, those aren’t the biggest concerns here.

The issue is the price tag. Morejon was in his final year of arbitration in 2026 and made $3.9 million.

Now that he’s headed to free agency in 2027, that number is going to climb, and plenty of teams will be in on him. Atlanta could afford to chase him, especially if it moves on from Raisel Iglesias, but that doesn’t mean it should.

The Braves already made a major bullpen investment in Aaron Bummer a couple of years ago, and that didn’t work out the way they hoped. Morejon would make sense as a fit for Alex Anthopoulos, but there’s an argument that the front office should resist the obvious move and spend elsewhere.

Atlanta needs help in the lineup and the starting rotation too, and that’s where the bigger portion of the offseason money may be better spent. The bullpen can always be addressed through the trade market.

Morejon would help, no question. The question is whether the Braves can afford to make another reliever one of their bigger financial priorities.

Braves Face Two Roster Decisions They Cant Afford To Miss

Chris Sale gave the Braves exactly the kind of season they hoped for in 2024, and that matters because the pitching picture does not get any simpler from here. The rotation needs more depth heading toward 2027, while the rest of the staff still has to account for health concerns that can reshape a plan in a hurry. For a team trying to stay ahead of the curve, those are the kinds of roster questions that cant be brushed aside until spring.

The bigger squeeze may come on the position-player side, where several spots have lagged behind and shortstop in particular stands out as an unresolved issue. Atlanta has to decide whether to lock in one look there or preserve the flexibility that has helped it cover ground elsewhere, and the choice carries real consequences for the rest of the roster construction. At the same time, the bullpen picture is not settled either, with one veteran reliever looming as a key decision in what could be a very expensive balancing act. [Read more 🡒]

Braves Could Soon Face A Surprising Ozzie Albies Decision

The Braves have already mapped out part of their long-term picture with Ronald Acua Jr., whose club options for 2027 and 2028 are expected to be picked up. Ozzie Albies fits into a different kind of planning conversation, but he remains part of the same future-facing equation as Atlanta weighs what to do with a core player who has been a steady presence and delivered in October.

Albies postseason work only strengthened his case inside the organization, yet the front office could still end up facing a tougher call than expected. Trading him would require the Braves to balance roster fit and payroll concerns, and the timing makes the decision especially tricky as they look ahead to the next offseason. [Read more 🡒]

Braves Fans Will Love The Pitcher Suddenly Tied To Atlanta

The Cleveland Guardians ALCS exit has already produced the usual offseason ripple effects, and Gavin Williams found himself in the middle of one of the lighter ones. After posting a message on Instagram, the right-hander drew a joking comment from a fan saying he was headed to Atlanta, and Williams gave it a like.

It was the kind of tiny social-media moment Braves fans notice immediately, even if the baseball reality is much less dramatic. Williams remains under team control through 2029, so any serious path to Atlanta would be a long shot at best, but that has not stopped a bit of online chatter from making the rounds. [Read more 🡒]
