Braves Drop Brett Wisely In Latest Roster Move

Braves infielder Brett Wisely, unable to secure a season-opening roster spot, has been outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett, highlighting Atlanta's strategic depth decisions.

Brett Wisely, the Braves' infielder, has cleared waivers and will head to Triple-A Gwinnett. Despite not making the Opening Day roster, Wisely remains with the organization in a non-roster capacity.

This move comes after he was designated for assignment during Atlanta's roster adjustments. With no minor league options left, Wisely needed to secure a spot on the bench or face waivers.

Ultimately, the Braves opted for Kyle Farmer, leading to Wisely's reassignment.

Wisely's journey has been quite the shuffle. The Braves had previously designated him for assignment in the offseason, trading him to Tampa Bay and then bringing him back a month later for cash considerations.

At 26, Wisely has seen action at the big league level over the past three seasons, mostly with the Giants before Atlanta picked him up on waivers late in the 2025 season. His MLB numbers show a .214/.265/.319 slash line across nearly 500 plate appearances, but his minor league stats tell a different story, with a .275/.372/.433 line over 835 Triple-A appearances.

Now in Gwinnett, Wisely joins a group of depth infielders, including Nacho Alvarez Jr., Rowdy Tellez, Luke Williams, and Aaron Schunk. Of these, Alvarez is the only one on the 40-man roster, making him the sole healthy rostered position player below the MLB level. The Braves have some flexibility, as they can shift players to the 60-day injured list to create space on the 40-man roster if necessary.
