Yurachek Keeps Powerful Playoff Role As New Names Arrive

Hunter Yurachek continues to lead the College Football Playoff selection committee, as Gus Malzahn and others join its ranks, promising fresh insights for the upcoming seasons.

FAYETTEVILLE - In a move that underscores his growing influence in college football, Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek is set to continue as the chair of the College Football Playoff selection committee for the 2026-27 season. This announcement solidifies Yurachek's role in shaping the future of the playoff landscape.

Yurachek initially took over the chair position midseason in 2025, following Mack Rhoades' resignation as Baylor's athletics director. Reflecting on his reappointment, Yurachek expressed gratitude and enthusiasm for the continued opportunity to lead.

"Working with such a dedicated group last year was an honor, and I'm eager to build on that momentum. Each committee member shares a profound passion for college football and a commitment to maintaining the playoff's integrity and excellence," he stated.

Joining Yurachek in the committee's new lineup is Gus Malzahn, a familiar name in college football circles. Having recently retired as Florida State's offensive coordinator, Malzahn brings a wealth of experience from his head coaching stints at Auburn, UCF, and Arkansas State. His connection to Arkansas runs deep, dating back to his time as the Razorbacks’ offensive coordinator in 2006, and his successful high school coaching career in the state.

Malzahn will be joined by Jeff Tedford, former head coach at California and Fresno State, and Bryan Maggard, Louisiana's athletics director. These new members step in for outgoing committee veterans Jeff Long, Chris Ault, and David Sayler. With these changes, the committee is poised for another season of impactful decision-making in the ever-evolving world of college football.
