Arkansas head coach Ryan Silverfield is gearing up to build his 2027 football recruiting class, but he's already scored a major win with the signing of Fayetteville quarterback Hank Hendrix. Originally slated for the 2026 class, Hendrix fast-tracked his academic schedule and made the leap to join the Razorbacks this summer.
The journey wasn't without drama. Former Fayetteville High School head coach Casey Dick, unhappy about losing his star quarterback, publicly vented his frustrations on social media. Despite the noise, Hendrix made it official on February 4, signing with Arkansas.
Adding a layer of intrigue, Hendrix's father, Che, is part of Arkansas' staff, providing a unique inside connection to the program. While Dick has moved on to a new role in Texas, Silverfield shared insights during a recent press conference about how Hendrix's reclassification unfolded.
"We're thrilled about Hank," Silverfield said. "Now that he's officially signed, we can talk about him.
It's rare to see a player reclassify like this, especially without any prior discussions. Hank's father is on our staff, but we never talked about reclassifying.
It was all Hank's decision, driven by his academic progress and talent."
Silverfield emphasized that the decision was entirely Hendrix's, with the Arkansas staff ensuring the process was handled correctly. "We just wanted to make sure everything was done right.
Once it came up, it made perfect sense to bring him on board. He's got immense potential, and we're excited for his future."
Hendrix's high school stats speak volumes. As a junior, he completed 233 of 369 passes, racking up 3,602 yards and 32 touchdowns, with just six interceptions. On the ground, he added six touchdowns and 153 yards.
Initially a four-star prospect and the top player in Arkansas for 2026, Hendrix now ranks 35th nationally and seventh in the state for the 2027 class, according to 247Sports. His journey to Arkansas promises to be one to watch.
