Razorbacks Aim for Victory at Arkansas Qualifier in Pivotal Relay Event

As the Arkansas Qualifier approaches, the Razorbacks aim to set new records in the distance medley relay to secure their spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships.

FAYETTEVILLE - The stage is set for an exciting showdown as the No. 1 Razorbacks host the Arkansas Qualifier at the Randal Tyson Track Center. With representatives from 25 schools, this meet serves as the final tune-up before the conference battles begin.

Arkansas is gearing up to run the distance medley relay (DMR) for the first time this season. To punch their ticket to the NCAA Indoor Championships, they need to secure one of the top 12 relay times. Set to compete against powerhouses like Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington, the Razorbacks have their work cut out for them.

“We’re aiming for a strong performance in the distance medley relay,” said Arkansas men’s head coach Doug Case. “With five of the nation’s top teams here, we know the competition is fierce. Virginia set a collegiate record at this meet last year, so we’re prepared to push the limits to qualify.”

Reflecting on last year, Virginia’s record-setting 9:14.19 was a highlight, with Oklahoma State and Oregon also delivering impressive performances. Arkansas narrowly missed the NCAA cut, finishing 13th while Oregon claimed the final spot.

This year, Arkansas fields a promising lineup with Owan Logorodi, Jordan Pierre, Tyrice Taylor, and Brian Masai. “We believe we can qualify,” Case shared.

“Owan, a freshman, will lead off the 1,200m leg. It’s a big test for him, but we’re confident.

Jordan and Tyrice bring NCAA finals experience, and Brian’s been setting personal records all season.”

Logorodi has been on a roll, posting personal bests in the 1,000m and 800m. Pierre and Taylor have also delivered standout performances, with Taylor setting a Jamaican national record in the 800m. Masai has been equally impressive, clocking career bests in the mile and 3,000m.

In the 800m, Rivaldo Marshall looks to build on his recent personal best, joined by teammates Josh Rammage, Julian Carter, and Wyatt Green. “We need more races for our 800m and 400m guys,” Case noted. “Some are on the cusp of qualifying times, so this meet is crucial.”

Freshman Karabo Letebele will sprint in the 60m, while Dapriest Hogans and Jamarion Stubbs tackle the 200m. Zander Cruzan and Zyaire Nuriddin are set for the 400m.

The 60m hurdles feature Karamoko Sacko and Cooper Williams, with James Sankei in the mile. Juriad Hughes and Link Lindsey will compete in the long jump, while Abraham Johnson and Lindsey take on the triple jump.

The Arkansas Qualifier promises to be an electrifying event, with the Razorbacks poised to make their mark on the road to the NCAA Indoor Championships.
