Razorback Star Sanu Jallow-Lockhart Earns SEC Honor After Standout Performance

Sanu Jallow-Lockharts blazing 600m run not only rewrote the collegiate record books but also earned her national and conference honors ahead of a big home meet.

FAYETTEVILLE - The Arkansas track and field program is making early-season noise, and two standout Razorbacks just earned some well-deserved recognition from the SEC after impressive showings at the Arkansas Invitational.

Sanu Jallow-Lockhart was named SEC Women’s Runner of the Week, and for good reason - she didn’t just win the 600 meters, she rewrote the collegiate record books. Jallow-Lockhart crossed the line in 1:24.19, shattering the previous collegiate best by nearly a full second.

That mark had belonged to another Razorback, Britton Wilson, who set the record at 1:25.16 back in 2023. Not only did Jallow-Lockhart dominate the field by 2.5 seconds, but she also etched her name into NCAA history with a performance that was as smooth as it was commanding.

That kind of effort didn’t go unnoticed nationally either - Jallow-Lockhart was also named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week on Monday, adding another accolade to a meet that already felt like a breakout moment.

On the men’s side, freshman Abdoul Sy-Savane is wasting no time making his presence felt. The newcomer was named SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week after clocking a career-best 7.68 in the 60-meter hurdles semifinal.

That time matches the fastest by any freshman in the country so far this year and ties for No. 8 among all collegiate hurdlers this season. It also slots him at No. 7 on Arkansas’s all-time list - not a bad place to be for a freshman still getting his feet under him.

In the final, Sy-Savane followed up with a 7.78 to take second, just four-hundredths of a second behind Texas State’s Ja’Shaun Lloyd, another freshman making waves with a 7.74.

With momentum building and the Razorback Invitational set for Jan. 30-31 at the Randal Tyson Track Center, Arkansas looks poised to keep the spotlight squarely on Fayetteville. If these early performances are any indication, this Razorback squad is just getting warmed up.
