Arkansas Targets Tulane's Wilkerson for Defensive Line Role Amid Coaching Shake-Up

Arkansas strengthens its coaching staff by bringing in Landius Wilkerson, a seasoned leader with a proven track record from Tulane and beyond, to helm the defensive line.

Arkansas is making a strategic move by bringing in Landius Wilkerson from Tulane to bolster their defensive line coaching staff. This hire fills the gap left by Marion Hobby, who recently departed for the Indianapolis Colts, and brings the Razorbacks' coaching roster back to a full dozen. Wilkerson joins Kynjee' Cotton, who not only coaches the defensive line but also coordinates the defensive run game.

Wilkerson's track record speaks volumes. At Tulane, he shaped several players into all-conference standouts, showcasing his knack for developing talent.

Before his stint at Tulane, Wilkerson spent time at South Alabama, where he played a pivotal role in the team's historic post-season victory at the 68 Ventures Bowl Game. His work with defensive lineman Wy'Kevious Thomas earned Thomas Third Team All-Sun Belt honors in 2023, following a strong 10-3 season in 2022 that included a share of the SBC West title.

His coaching journey began at Chattanooga, where he served as both defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. Prior to that, he honed his skills at Jacksonville State, helping the Gamecocks secure an Ohio Valley Conference championship and a deep playoff run in 2018. His defensive units were formidable, ranking second nationally in third-down conversion defense and among the top 15 in tackles for loss and total defense.

Wilkerson's early coaching career at Huntingdon College was marked by consistent success, with the team achieving a winning record every year during his tenure. He helped guide the Hawks to multiple conference titles and NCAA Division III playoff appearances, producing All-American talent along the way.

A former team captain and offensive lineman at Alabama State, Wilkerson brings a player's perspective to his coaching. His academic background in mathematics education and instructional leadership complements his on-field expertise, making him a well-rounded addition to the Razorbacks' staff.

With his wife Melody and their daughters McKenzie and Ava, Wilkerson's move to Arkansas marks the next chapter in an already impressive coaching career. His proven ability to develop players and build strong defensive units promises to be a valuable asset for the Razorbacks moving forward.
