Arkansas Just Landed A Fast-Rising Big Man Fans Needed To See

The Razorbacks bolster their frontcourt depth with a key commitment, focusing on size and talent in their pursuit of college basketball success.

Arkansas picked up an early-morning boost with the commitment of 4-star center Caleb Ourigou, a 6-foot-10 New York native who has quickly become one of the fastest-rising names in the 2027 class.

Ourigou has also been tied to a possible move into the 2026 cycle, and that possibility gives his pledge an extra layer of intrigue. If he does end up in Fayetteville this season, he would add even more length to John Calipari’s already huge frontcourt. That was a clear offseason focus for Calipari and his staff after Arkansas fell short of the Elite Eight for the second straight year, with the Razorbacks making it a priority to add more size inside and bringing in three players with at least a 7-foot wingspan.

The commitment didn’t come out of nowhere. Ourigou has been one of the more imposing big men on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring, drawing scholarship offers from TCU, Virginia, Michigan, NC State, Missouri, Auburn, BYU, UConn, Syracuse, Kentucky and Tennessee. Arkansas got involved on June 14 after his strong showing at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, where he averaged 10 points and eight rebounds while shooting 74% from 2-point range and 63% from the free-throw line.

BYU and UConn had been viewed as serious contenders, but Arkansas was able to pull away over the last 24 hours.

Even with a listed playing weight that remains light, Ourigou’s physicality and intensity stand out as traits that could translate right away at the college level, whether he stays in 2027 or reclassifies to 2026.

At Overtime Elite in Atlanta during his junior season, Ourigou played for Cold Hearts and averaged six points, eight rebounds and one block in 17 minutes per game. He shot better than 57% from the field, though he made just 44% of his free throws.

If he stays in the 2027 class, Ourigou becomes the second commitment for Arkansas in that cycle, joining 5-star point guard Davion Thompson. The Razorbacks already finished with the consensus No. 1 recruiting class in the country this past season, marking the second time since 2022.

With a couple of roster spots still open, there’s also a real chance that both of Arkansas’ 2027 commits could end up reclassifying to 2026. And with the EYBL Peach Jam set to begin Tuesday, July 14, the rumor mill could heat up quickly, especially with offseason training already underway in Fayetteville.

Arkansas Just Got A Brutal Reminder Of How Far It Has Fallen

Arkansass latest reminder of how steep the climb has become arrived in Phil Steeles 2026 college football projections, where the Razorbacks sit at the bottom of the SEC after a 2-10 season and a coaching change. It is the kind of ranking that underscores just how far the program has drifted from the leagues middle class, and how much ground there is to make up before anyone starts talking about relevance again.

Ryan Silverfield has been handed the job of trying to pull the Razorbacks out of that hole, with athletics director Hunter Yurachek also pressing the message that the program has to be built with more support and a sharper competitive edge. Arkansas is still trying to catch up in the modern arms race around recruiting and NIL, and the road ahead looks even more demanding when the schedule offers little margin for error. [Read more 🡒]

Pro Hogs Are Making Arkansas Fans Notice Something Bigger In Vegas

The NBA Summer League in Las Vegas has turned into a familiar sight for Arkansas fans, with 11 former Razorbacks on the floor and plenty of reasons to keep one eye on the leagues showcase event. Meleek Thomas provided one of the weekends loudest performances, and Adou Thiero and Darius Acuff also turned in notable outings as the pro Hogs kept making their presence felt in front of a national audience.

Thomas night stood out even in a crowded field of Arkansas representation, and Thieros impact gave the Razorbacks another highlight to point to as the games rolled on. Acuffs debut added another layer to the story, because the rookie guards first Vegas appearance hinted at just how much Arkansas talent is already shaping the conversation out there, with more still to come as the summer slate continues. Calipari Is Pushing For Another Elite Guard Arkansas Fans Will Want

Arkansas 2027 board is starting to take shape, and one of the names drawing the most attention is five-star guard King Gibson. The Razorbacks are said to be gaining momentum with the Ohio standout, who is also being pursued by UConn, Louisville and Alabama, giving John Calipari another high-end backcourt target to sell as he continues building out that class.

Gibsons profile helps explain why the interest is real. 247Sports has him ranked No. 5 overall in the 2027 class, and he backed that up at the Nike EYBL stop in Memphis with a strong all-around weekend. Arkansas already has one 2027 commitment in five-star point guard Davion Thompson, though that situation has some uncertainty around it, which makes the push for another elite guard even more important as the staff keeps working the future roster.
