Arkansas is back in the mix for one of the biggest names in the 2027 class.
AJ Williams, the elite Eagles Landing Christian Academy forward, included the Razorbacks in his top 10 schools on Monday. The 6-foot-7, 220-pound prospect is ranked No. 5 overall in the nation for the 2027 recruiting cycle and has narrowed his list to Arkansas, Auburn, BYU, Duke, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi State and North Carolina.
According to 247Sports, Williams is the No. 2 small forward in the class and the No. 1 player in Georgia after reclassifying from the 2028 group.
Williams has already put together a massive résumé. As a sophomore at Eagles Landing this past season, he averaged 32 points and 13 rebounds per game.
He followed that up with a strong summer on the Nike EYBL circuit, putting up 21 points, eight rebounds and nearly two assists per game for Team CP3. He shot 43.2% from the floor and knocked down 34% of his three-point tries.
Arkansas offered Williams in July, though the Hogs had been involved in his recruitment for some time before that. He has not taken an unofficial visit to Fayetteville yet, but he has been to Auburn, Duke and Georgia Tech and is working on official visit dates, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.
What makes Williams such a fit for John Calipari’s program is the way he can operate in a positionless setup. He’s a scorer who can create offense at all three levels, and his game gives him the kind of one-on-one juice that plays in isolation-heavy basketball. His midrange jumper stands out because of how repeatable it looks, with his body staying square even when defenders try to bump him off his line.
His size and athleticism let him slide across the floor, and he can line up at all five positions. At 225 pounds, he still has room to add more muscle. On defense, he brings shot-blocking ability with verticality and length, and he understands how to work the glass on both ends, including tracking long rebounds off the rim.
Williams’ production against Georgia high school competition has carried over to the EYBL stage, which only strengthens his profile as one of the most coveted prospects in the country.
Arkansas also has its eyes on several other major 2027 targets, including No. 1 overall prospect Beckham Black, No. 2 CJ Rosser, No.
3 Cayden Daughtry, No. 4 Demarcus Henry, No.
7 Lewis Uvwo and No. 18 Paul Osaruyi.
It’s hard to know exactly what Arkansas’ future roster will look like, but a return from point guard Davion Thompson and center Caleb Ourigou for their sophomore season would already give the Razorbacks a strong starting point.
