Chris Marshall has gone from a name with big-school buzz to the SEC’s most productive receiver through the first month of the season, and Arkansas is cashing in.
The Razorbacks wideout leads the conference with 28 catches for 473 yards and a touchdown over four games, production that has turned him into the clear focal point of the passing game. Arkansas has other options, including CJ Brown, Ismael Cisse and Jamari Hawkins, but Marshall has separated himself by consistently finding space and forcing quarterback KJ Jackson to keep looking his way.
That kind of run is likely to draw extra attention from Texas A&M on Saturday, and Silverfield said the Razorbacks are expecting the Aggies to adjust.
"Teams are going to start rolling you know some coverages and doing some different things," Silverfield said. "I think that's part of what you're going to start seeing is are our opponents are going to try to put their best corner on, play man-to-man? Are they going to start rolling u things that way?
"We'll see to , it's to be determined, but we've got to be great with it. And, you know, we need other guys to step up. We've got great faith in all the other wide receivers."
Texas A&M’s pass defense has already shown some cracks. In last weekend’s 35-6 loss at LSU, the Aggies gave up 312 passing yards and two touchdowns to Sam Leavitt. Dezz Ricks, a veteran defensive back, was responsible for 125 yards and a touchdown in coverage and could be the one tasked with trying to slow Marshall down.
Marshall has already shown he can pile up numbers in a hurry. He went for 198 yards against Tulsa, a performance that only added to the attention surrounding him.
There’s also a personal angle here, even if Silverfield doesn’t think it will drive either player all that much. Marshall began his college career at Texas A&M in 2022, playing in six games and catching 11 passes for 108 yards. Jaden Platt also spent his first couple of seasons with the Aggies as part of the 2024 recruiting class before transferring to Arkansas last season.
Still, Silverfield downplayed the idea that either player needs extra fuel for Saturday.
"I love Chris, but I think that was like five schools ago for him," Silverfield said. "So, I don't think that's going to go in their minds, any of those things. ..You got always have respect for where you came from.
"I don't know if there's any extra motivation needed. We talk it so often within ourselves like right the rah rah speech and all that stuff that's that's cool but that lasts 30 seconds right and the motivation itself, like man our guys are are self starters, especially those two individuals I've got great you know didn't matter who we were playing they'll show up and put in the work."
Arkansas and Texas A&M kick off Saturday at 6 p.m. The game will be shown on ESPN2 and the Razorback Sports Network.

Filling in for injured Bradley Shaw, the linebacker showed up all over the field with four tackles, a sack, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery, giving the Razorbacks a jolt on a day when the defense set the tone early.
Ryan Silverfield has already taken notice of how Bogles presence has grown as the season has moved along, especially in terms of energy, leadership and communication. Arkansas has been steadily giving him more responsibility, and after a performance like this, the bigger question is how quickly that expanded role becomes a permanent part of the defense. Arkansas Has A Real Chance To Flip The Southwest Classic Script
Mike Elkos history against Arkansas has already given Texas A&M plenty of confidence in the Southwest Classic, and it has also helped shape the matchup the Razorbacks are trying to turn around. Elko has faced Arkansas six times as a coach, with Texas A&M winning five of those meetings, and he is 2-0 against the Hogs since taking over in College Station.
