Arkansas had a late touchdown to soften the blow, but there was never much suspense in Fayetteville on Saturday. Georgia rolled to a 45-17 win, and the final score only looked a little friendlier after the Razorbacks found the end zone again with 40 seconds left.
The No. 2 Bulldogs improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the SEC, and they controlled the game from the start.
Georgia barely leaned on its passing attack in the first half, throwing just six times and completing five of those attempts while the ground game piled up a 164-11 halftime edge. Arkansas managed only six more rushing yards after the break, while Georgia added another 90.
One of the oddest elements of the afternoon was that Arkansas actually matched Georgia in a few key defensive categories. The Razorbacks finished with the same number of tackles for loss, six, and sacks, three.
But that was about where the good news stopped. Arkansas still lost the turnover battle, got beaten on special teams, fell behind on third downs, spent half as much time in the red zone, and then compounded the damage with red zone penalties.
The result was another loss in a stretch that now stands at nine straight SEC home defeats.
The quarterback situation added another layer of intrigue. Ryan Silverfield said the rotation between KJ Jackson and AJ Hill had been set in place earlier in the week.
"Yes, sir. Yeah, we had decided, really, on Monday that that's what we were going to do," head coach Ryan Silverfield said of the quarterback situation. "The whole plan all along was to get KJ two series, and regardless of how those went, and then AJ, the next 2 series and then make a decision from there.
"I think part of it is what we did was this past week and clearly not to the level we needed to or to the improvement we needed to is, 'OK, what plays can KJ run well and read well, and what plays can AJ run well and read well? And then not just give them a menu of, 'Hey, here are the 250 plays we've run in this past 10 years.'
What else do you like? And you saw, I mean, I think today, probably 20 plays that we've never run before, some were effective.
Some weren't."
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton was efficient through the air, finishing 10 of 13 for 147 yards and a touchdown. He did even more damage on the ground, leading the Bulldogs with 97 rushing yards on seven carries.
Arkansas did have one big offensive highlight, with Jackson connecting with Chris Marshall, but the rest of the day was defined by missed chances and the same kind of frustration that has followed the Razorbacks through this losing streak.
