Arizona Wildcats fans have plenty to cheer about as the team gears up for the upcoming season. Both offensive coordinator Seth Doege and defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales have secured contract extensions, ensuring their presence through the 2028 season. Each will earn a base salary of $4.4 million, with their contracts ramping up to $1.1 million in 2026, $1.6 million in 2027, and $1.7 million in 2028.
The Wildcats are also investing heavily in their coaching staff, boasting a $6 million salary pool for assistant coaches, placing them third in the Big 12. This financial commitment underscores Arizona's ambition to remain competitive in the conference.
Doege, who joined from Marshall, made an immediate impact in his first season. Under his guidance, the Wildcats’ offense jumped to third in the Big 12, averaging 31.5 points per game-a significant leap from their previous 21.8 points per game. This offensive resurgence propelled Arizona to the 42nd-best offense in college football.
Quarterback Noah Fifita is a key piece in this offensive puzzle. Last season, he threw for 3,228 yards, 29 touchdowns, and only six interceptions, setting Arizona's career touchdown record. He’s set to return for his final year, ready to lead the offense with continuity for the first time.
On the defensive side, Gonzales has transformed Arizona into a formidable force. The Wildcats ranked seventh nationally in passing defense and led the Big 12 in interceptions. Their defense boasted more takeaways (31) than touchdowns allowed (28), showcasing an impressive turnover margin.
Arizona wrapped up last season with a 9-4 record, marking only the eighth time in program history they’ve won nine or more games. With spring practices starting on March 24 and the annual spring showcase on April 25 at Casino Del Sol Stadium, anticipation is building.
The Wildcats kick off their 2026 campaign against Northern Arizona on September 5 in Tucson. With both coordinators locked in and a talented roster returning, Arizona fans have every reason to be optimistic about the future.
