Big 12 Finally Gets Brendan Sorsby Closure

Brendan Sorsby shifts focus from litigation to redemption, setting sights on the 2027 NFL Draft after acknowledging his past gambling issues.

Brendan Sorsby’s path to the NFL now has a new target date.

The former Cincinnati quarterback is officially steering toward the 2027 NFL Draft after the league confirmed Tuesday that there will be no further litigation over his entry into the NFL and no supplemental draft this summer. For now, that means Sorsby will not be playing during the 2026 season and will instead be treated as a “Draft-Eligible” player for 2027 under league and CBA rules. He also will not be able to sign an NFL Player Contract until the 2027 draft is complete.

The NFL said in its statement: “We have confirmed with the NFLPA and Brendan Sorsby that there will be no further litigation regarding his entry into the NFL-and that instead, Mr. Sorsby will focus on his preparation for entry into the League via the 2027 NFL Draft.

For purposes of League and CBA rules, Mr. Sorsby will be considered a 'Draft-Eligible' player for the 2027 NFL Draft.

Mr. Sorsby will not be eligible to sign an NFL Player Contract until the completion of the 2027 NFL Draft."

Sorsby then issued a statement of his own on Tuesday, aligning himself with that decision and addressing the gambling issues that complicated his NFL hopes. He said, “There has been a lot of news about me out there, and I want to share this statement to make sure things are clear.

I accept 100% responsibility for my actions. I did not have control of my gambling problem, and it took getting caught for me to realize that, but it was truly the best thing that could've happened to me.

Because of this, I have been able to get the

help I need and fully focus on my recovery. The news about the supplemental draft changes nothing about my recovery journey - I

will continue to take it one day at a time. Focusing on making myself better throughout this process and making sure to share what I have learned and will continue to learn with others going forward.

I am fully committed to being the best version of myself that I can be while getting ready for the 2027 draft. God makes no mistakes, and I look forward to seeing the good that is to come from this.”

The issue traces back to gambling infractions from Sorsby’s time at Indiana, where he bet on his team multiple times while also placing thousands of other sports wagers. Those problems, along with the league’s belief that he had not shown enough accountability, kept the NFL from holding a supplemental draft for him.

On the field, Sorsby put together a strong 2025 season for Cincinnati. He finished with 2,800 passing yards and added 580 rushing yards, while throwing five interceptions and taking just seven sacks. The source material describes him as a top-15 quarterback last season and one of Cincinnati’s best signal callers of the 21st century.

Why JayVion Cole Now Defines Arizonas Secondary Entering Big 12 Media Days

Arizona is heading to Big 12 Media Days in Frisco with seven players and coach Brent Brennan, and one of the clearest faces of the programs defensive identity is redshirt senior cornerback Jay'Vion Cole. After a season that included four interceptions and a pick-six, Cole has become more than a standout cover man for the Wildcats. He is now one of the players teammates and coaches point to when talking about how this secondary is supposed to function in a new conference and a bigger spotlight.

Coles rise matters because Arizona is trying to establish credibility in the Big 12 right away, and the secondary figures to be a major part of that push. The Wildcats have praised his performance and his presence in the room, and the expectation around him keeps growing as the season approaches. What happens next for Cole could say plenty about Arizonas defense, and maybe even about how far his name can travel beyond Tucson once the games start for real. [Read more 🡒]

Two Arizona Stars Just Reached Major NBA Crossroads

Two former Arizona standouts found themselves in the middle of NBA roster churn this week, a reminder of how quickly the league can reshape a players path. Deandre Aytons contract situation was resolved as part of a trade that sent him on to a new stop, while the Lakers brought back Jaden Hardy and two second-round picks in the deal.

Caleb Loves path took a different turn, with the former Wildcats guard landing a two-way opportunity after his first pro season in Portland. For Arizona fans, it is another snapshot of a program still producing players who keep moving through the NBAs ever-changing middle class, and in Loves case there is at least one familiar face waiting in Philadelphia. Arizona Just Landed A 2027 Quarterback With A Hidden Wildcats Tie

Arizona picked up another quarterback for its future class when Caden Jones, a three-star prospect from Southern California, committed to the Wildcats. Jones has been on the radar of plenty of major programs, but he ultimately chose Arizona and adds to a growing connection between the school and Crean Lutheran High School, where he becomes the latest player from that pipeline to head to Tucson.

Jones brings a dual-threat profile that has made him one of the more intriguing young quarterbacks in his class, with production as both a passer and runner and a reputation that extends to the basketball court as well. There is also a familiar family link inside the program, since his older brother is already at Arizona, giving this commitment a little extra meaning beyond the recruiting win itself. [Read more 🡒]
