Arizonas Top Team Faces A Week 11 Test With Real Playoff Stakes

Week 11 of Arizona high school football promises thrilling top-10 clashes with playoff implications as Liberty fights to maintain its top position.

The top of Arizona high school football is about to get a serious stress test.

Week 11 brings three top-10 matchups, and six of the state’s highest-ranked teams are set to collide as the regular season winds down and playoff positioning comes into sharper focus. At the center of it all is Liberty, which stays at No. 1 for a second straight week after a 49-16 road win over O’Connor.

The Lions now turn to one of their biggest challenges yet: a showdown with No. 4 Centennial between two 8-1 teams.

Centennial has been rolling since its loss to Chandler. The Coyotes beat Boulder Creek 51-7 in Week 10 and have outscored their last two opponents 94-7. That sets up one of the marquee games on the schedule, with Liberty trying to protect the top spot and Centennial trying to make a statement.

The other heavyweight clash is just as loaded. No.

2 Chandler and No. 3 Hamilton will meet again in a rivalry game that carries plenty of weight beyond the rankings.

Both teams enter at 8-1 and both just posted shutouts. Chandler blanked Pinnacle 40-0, while Hamilton crushed Cactus Canyon 50-0.

Hamilton quarterback Jax Sculley was nearly flawless, going six-for-six for 111 passing yards and three touchdowns before sitting in the blowout.

Basha also gets a rivalry game in Week 11, and the Bears come in with momentum. They sit at No. 5 after a 35-0 road win over Salpointe Catholic, a game in which quarterback Jake Rogers threw four touchdowns.

Next up is No. 9 Perry in the Battle of Val Vista.

Perry is riding its own confidence after a 45-14 win over Mesa, with quarterback Kael Snyder throwing four touchdowns and running back Talen Frazier adding two scores.

No. 6 Higley has been one of the most explosive offenses in the state, and the Knights kept that going with a 46-21 road win over Williams Field.

They have now scored at least 45 points in five straight games. Their next test comes against No.

12 Brophy College Prep.

Some teams have already finished the regular season and are now waiting on the postseason picture. No.

7 Desert Mountain closed at 8-1 after beating Horizon 24-15. No.

8 ALA-Gilbert North finished a perfect 10-0 after taking down Mountain Pointe, with running back Weston Powell rushing for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles’ defense also held their opponent to seven points or less for the second straight week.

Benjamin Franklin is in that same waiting game after finishing 10-0 and now prepares for its Class 3A playoff opener against Coolidge. McClintock also enters the Top 25 at No. 24 despite a loss to Sunnyslope and will face No. 25 Chaparral in the Class 5A playoffs.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Perry’s surge keeps it in the top 10, while Pinnacle is looking for a reset after a 40-0 loss to Chandler. The Pioneers had beaten Basha and played Hamilton close earlier, but Week 10 was a rough one. They get a chance to respond in Week 11 with a trip to Boulder Creek.

Tommy Lloyd Suddenly Faces A Troubling Arizona Recruiting Question

Arizonas season-opening loss to UCLA was a reminder that Tommy Lloyds program still has plenty to sort through on the court, but the concern is starting to spill into the recruiting trail as well. The Wildcats have had a difficult run trying to land top frontcourt talent in the 2027 class, and a string of misses has left the staff with less margin for error than it would prefer.

The latest setback came with another highly regarded big man choosing elsewhere, adding to the sense that Arizona is fighting uphill in that part of the cycle. For now, the Wildcats still have one uncommitted 2027 recruit on the board in Adan Diggs, which makes the next stretch important as Lloyd and his staff try to avoid letting a promising class slip further out of reach. Kentucky May Have Finally Found The Shooter Mark Pope Needed

Milan Momcilovics first night in a Kentucky uniform gave Mark Pope exactly the kind of perimeter pop he has been chasing. The former Iowa State forward, who spent three seasons with the Cyclones, stepped into his Wildcats debut against Manhattan and immediately looked comfortable, finishing with 24 points and five rebounds while hitting 8 of 12 shots overall.

The most encouraging part for Kentucky was how naturally Momcilovic fit as a floor-spacer, giving the offense another threat defenses have to account for beyond the arc. Pope has already made it clear he wants that part of Momcilovics game to become a bigger feature of the attack, and if this debut was any indication, the Wildcats may have found a shooter who can change the spacing of the whole lineup. Arizona Just Got A Playoff Reality Check At The Worst Time

Arizonas place in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season offers a clear snapshot of where the program stands in November: respectable, relevant and still very much in the mix. At 6-2, the Wildcats have put themselves in position to matter in a crowded Big 12 field, and the leagues showing in the top 25 only reinforces how little margin for error there is from here.

The schedule ahead does not exactly ease the pressure, either. TCU, Utah, Kansas State and Arizona State all remain on deck, and each one carries the kind of weight that can either strengthen Arizonas case or leave it scrambling to recover. For a team trying to turn a strong start into something more lasting, the next few weeks will say plenty about whether this is a breakthrough season or just the beginning of one. [Read more 🡒]
