Arizona Misses On A Recruit With A Surprising Wildcats Connection

In a major recruiting win, Florida lands four-star center Kamsi Awaka, beating out powerhouse programs despite Arizona connections.

Florida added a major piece to its 2027 class on Wednesday, landing four-star center Kamsi Awaka over a crowded group of high-profile programs.

Todd Golden’s staff beat out Michigan, UConn, Arizona and Michigan State for the Blairstown, New Jersey product, who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 5 center in the class. The win carries extra weight because Arizona had a clear family connection in the race: Awaka’s older brother, Tobe Awaka, spent two strong seasons with the Wildcats before moving on to the NBA as an undrafted prospect. Tobe Awaka was the 2025-26 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year.

Still, Florida made itself impossible to ignore. Awaka said the Gators made him feel like a centerpiece of their plans.

“I decided to commit to Florida because I was their top priority," he told Rivals. "My relationship is great with them and they believe I can develop to reach my full potential.”

Awaka’s summer production backed up the buzz. On the adidas 3SSB circuit, he put up 13.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game.

Rivals recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw sees a player built for what college basketball is becoming.

“Kamsi Awaka is trending in the exact direction that college basketball is heading," wrote Rivals recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw. "A big and physical post presence who patrols the paint, cleans the boards, and finishes at the front of the rim. Awaka does all of these things, and he does them at an efficient and high level.”

Noah Fifita Keeps Building An Arizona Legacy Despite One NFL Doubt

Noah Fifita keeps adding to his place in Arizona history, even as the NFL conversation around him stays tied to the same old question of size. The Wildcats quarterback has drawn praise from coaches and analysts for his accuracy, mental processing and resilience, and his strong 2025 season has only reinforced why he continues to matter so much to this program.

Fifita has already set school passing records and is approaching a career total that puts him in rare company, all while insisting his focus is on the season in front of him rather than draft talk two years down the road. The long view still includes plenty of uncertainty about how pro evaluators will sort him out, but at Arizona, he keeps giving the Wildcats reasons to believe his legacy is still growing. Noah Fifita Just Changed The Big 12 QB Debate

Week 5 in the Big 12 shook up the quarterback conversation, and Noah Fifita was at the center of it. With several league passers turning in noteworthy outings and a handful of teams heading into bye weeks, the race to the top of the conference pecking order got a fresh look heading into Week 6. For Arizona, that matters because Fifita is no longer just part of the discussion. He is forcing his way into it on the strength of a performance that stood out across the league.

The matchup that pushed him forward came in Baylors 55-19 rout at Arizona State, where Fifita was sharp through the air and also added to the scoring on the ground. When a quarterback posts that kind of all-around output in a league packed with moving parts at the position, it tends to change how the rest of the week is viewed. The bigger question now is whether he can back it up as the Big 12 settles into another round of conference games and ranking debates. [Read more 🡒]

Arizona Faces An Early Big 12 Test That Could Mean Plenty

Arizonas 34-7 home win over Cincinnati pushed Brent Brennans team to 4-1 and gave the Wildcats a little breathing room as they head into a far different kind of Big 12 test. The next stop is a road trip to West Virginia, where the matchup on paper looks like a classic strength-on-strength setup for Arizonas defense against a Mountaineers attack that has leaned on the ground and a defense that has struggled to hold up.

For the Wildcats, it is also the sort of early conference game that can say plenty about where this season is headed. The game time, location and betting line all frame it as a meaningful measuring stick, but the broader question is whether Arizona can carry the momentum from its Cincinnati performance into a hostile setting and keep building in league play.
