Arizona’s 2027 recruiting class keeps growing, and the latest addition comes with plenty of heavyweight competition attached.
Jacob Whitehead, a 3-star cornerback from Southern California, announced Wednesday evening that he is headed to Tucson. The commitment arrived just as Arizona opened fall camp for the 2026 season, giving the Wildcats another defensive piece for the future.
Whitehead is the fifth player from Orange County’s Crean Lutheran High School to commit to Arizona over the summer. He joins receiver Ty Johnson, quarterback Caden Jones, WR/TE Braylen Ross and corner Evan Mack, all of whom had already pledged to the Wildcats.
At 6-foot-3 and around 170 pounds, Whitehead brings unusual size to the cornerback spot. He started his high school career at Inglewood, where he played his freshman and sophomore seasons, then spent his junior year at St. John Bosco before transferring to Crean Lutheran to finish out his prep career.
Whitehead also has a résumé that stretches beyond the high school season. In January, he played in the Navy All-American Bowl after earning an invite and All-Combine honors at the 2024 All-American Combine.
Arizona landed him over a long list of suitors. Whitehead chose the Wildcats out of 23 other offers, with schools such as Alabama, Arizona State, BYU, Florida, Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Utah and Washington all in the mix.
247Sports rates Whitehead as a high 3-star prospect in both of its ranking systems. The site lists him as the No. 54 cornerback and the 50th-best player in California internally, while the Composite has him at No. 702 nationally, No. 71 among cornerbacks and No. 55 in California.
His production has varied by stop. As a freshman at Inglewood, Whitehead posted 48 tackles, an interception and 17 PBUs in nine games.
No sophomore stats were available. As a junior at Bosco, MaxPreps lists him with four tackles and a forced fumble in five games.

Arizona Just Landed In The Mix For A Coveted 2027 Forward
Arizona has positioned itself well with one of the more intriguing names in the 2027 cycle, as four-star forward Kamsi Awaka is now working through a five-school list that includes the Wildcats. The 247Sports rankings place Awaka at No. 52 in the class, and his profile already carries a familiar Tucson connection through his older brother, Tobe Awaka, who once played in Arizonas frontcourt.
For now, the recruitment is still in its early stages, with no official visits announced yet and plenty of time for the race to shift. Even so, landing among the schools still in the mix gives Arizona a real chance to keep building on that family tie, while also competing with a national group that includes Florida, Michigan, Michigan State and UConn.
