Arizona’s defense kept making its presence felt in Thursday’s practice, and Quinn Olson was right in the middle of it.
Olson has been working with the ones for most of camp, and he backed that up with a pair of standout plays. He read a slant from Noah Fifita perfectly and picked it off, then later got a hand on another Fifita throw and tipped it to Dominic Lolesio for an interception. Those plays only reinforced what has been clear throughout camp: Olson’s likely starting role looks earned by what he’s doing on the field.
Another defender who keeps stacking strong days is Malcolm Hartzog. He may be Arizona’s most consistent defender right now, and if he isn’t, he’s very close.
Hartzog simply keeps showing up and making plays. On Thursday, he broke up a pass in one-on-ones, adding another sharp moment to a camp full of them.
He’s been around the ball constantly and has locked himself in as one of the best players on that side.
Offensively, Isaiah Mizell had a mixed day that felt a lot like camp in miniature. He’s still fighting his biggest battle against himself.
After dropping too many passes a few days ago, he came back with a stronger practice, only to run into the same issue again on Thursday. The drops were there, and he was visibly frustrated.
He also lost a fumble on a strong play by Zuri Watson. But Mizell didn’t stay down for long.
He answered by blowing past Kingston Spivey for a deep touchdown in 11-on-11, a reminder of the kind of big-play ability that keeps popping up.
