Camp Tontozona dodgeball has carved out a weird little place in ASU football lore, and it’s not fading anytime soon.
What started as a camp diversion has turned into one of the most talked-about parts of the offseason, with plenty of competition, controversy and trash-talk mixed in. It gives the players a break from football while still feeding that team-first edge, because the teams are built around who they weight train with rather than position groups or class years.
That setup does more than just shuffle the roster for fun. It pushes players and assistant coaches to interact with people they might barely cross paths with once football starts rolling. Through the offseason and camp, those groups battle in different activities, and everyone keeps a close eye on the standings.
The strategy has grown right along with the tradition. On one field, Brian Ward was injured and not competing, but he was still watching the action after his team had already secured the win. Elsewhere, a numbers discrepancy between two teams led tight ends coach Jason Mohns to suggest the coaches sit out.
Mohns’ team was lined up against Trenton Bourguet’s group, and Bourguet’s dodgeball skill has already become part of Camp T legend. Mohns was willing to step aside if it meant keeping the opposing team’s best player off the court.
For ASU, that’s the appeal in a nutshell: a chance to keep competing, keep score and keep the edge - just without the helmets and pads for a while.

Arizona State Camp Battle Is Opening A Big Door For Jalen Klemm
Arizona States offensive line picture is starting to come into focus as preseason camp approaches, and Jalen Klemm is suddenly right in the middle of it. The fifth-year lineman is projected to be part of the competition at right tackle alongside junior Champ Westbrooks, with openings created by the departures of the previous starters giving both players a real chance to seize a bigger role.
Klemms path back to this point has already made him one of the more compelling figures in the room. He spent 2025 as a reserve after earning his first career start in the Sun Bowl, and his recognition with the Pat Tillman Leadership Council adds another layer to a comeback story that has been building for more than a year. The camp battle now gives him a chance to turn that momentum into something more permanent. [Read more 🡒]
Arizona State Sits In A Stretch That Could Break Kansas Early
Arizona State finds itself in the middle of a stretch that could shape Kansas season long before the Jayhawks ever get to the bigger overseas spotlight later on. The early run matters because Missouri is already the kind of test that can reveal a teams footing, and a meeting with the Sun Devils would only add to the pressure of a schedule that leaves little room for a slow start.
For Kansas, the concern is not just the opponent in front of it, but what comes after if those early games do not go well. A trip abroad later in the year raises the familiar questions about travel, rhythm and recovery, and Kansas State has already lived through how an overseas game can echo through a season. Arizona States place in that opening stretch may not decide everything, but it could help determine how much margin the Jayhawks have before Wembley enters the picture. [Read more 🡒]
