In an impressive showcase, Sun Devil Lacrosse's Teagan Ng and Regan Spichiger have been honored with the Big 12's weekly awards for their stellar performances in week five. Ng, a senior attacker, and Spichiger, a sophomore goalkeeper, were pivotal in ASU's back-to-back victories against Niagara and Bucknell, where the team racked up a total of 36 goals.
Ng's performance was nothing short of historic. She became ASU's all-time leading goal scorer, netting a season-high six goals against Niagara and extending her remarkable goal-scoring streak to 26 games.
Her all-around game was on display as she also matched her career-high with four ground balls and forced two turnovers. In the clash with Bucknell, Ng added four more goals, an assist, and continued her defensive contributions with another ground ball and a caused turnover.
On the defensive end, Spichiger was a fortress in goal. She secured two wins in her starts, making 21 saves against 47 shots with a 55.3% save percentage over the two games.
Her standout moment came against Bucknell, where she faced a season-high 31 shots and recorded 14 saves-doubling her previous career best. Her efforts were crucial in stifling Bucknell's high-powered offense, which ranks 7th in the NCAA, holding them to just 12 goals, well below their average.
This recognition marks Spichiger's first Big 12 weekly honor, and adds to ASU's growing list of accolades this season, joining the ranks of Jordyn Behar, Anna Viglione, Gabriella Henry, and Averie Cage, who have all been celebrated by the conference. The Sun Devils are making waves, and with performances like these, they're certainly a team to watch.
