Sun Devil Gymnastics Heads to Salt Lake City for Clash with No. 14 Utah
The Sun Devils are packing their bags and heading into a high-stakes road test this Friday night, as Arizona State Gymnastics travels to Salt Lake City to take on No. 14 Utah at 7 p.m.
MST. It’s a marquee matchup against the reigning Big 12 champions-and a chance for ASU to keep building momentum after a season-best performance.

Coming Off a Clutch Win
Arizona State is riding high after a gutsy win over BYU, where the Sun Devils capitalized on a pair of falls from the Cougars in the final rotation. ASU didn’t just sneak by-they delivered under pressure. Two 9.900s on floor helped push them to a season-high team score of 196.050, showing the kind of resilience and execution that can define a season.
The Gym Devils also posted their best event scores of the year on beam (49.075) and floor (49.225), with floor emerging as their strongest event across the board so far this season. That kind of consistency and upward trajectory is exactly what you want heading into a matchup against a top-15 opponent.
Kimberly Smith Steps Into the Spotlight
Senior Kimberly Smith is coming off the meet of her life-and now she’s got the hardware to prove it. Smith was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week, the first such honor of her career, after putting together a career-high 39.475 in the all-around against BYU.
She’s been a model of consistency this season, especially on floor, where she hasn’t dipped below a 9.825 all year. Against BYU, she hit season highs on vault (9.850), beam (9.850), and floor (9.900), showing leadership and poise when it mattered most.
What’s even more impressive? Over the last two meets, she’s scored below a 9.825 in any event just once. That’s the kind of all-around stability that makes a real difference in tight meets-especially on the road.
Freshmen Making Their Mark
This isn’t just a veteran-led squad. ASU’s freshman class is already proving its value.
Kylee Bromley, Safia El Mammann, and Delanie Kelly have all been regular contributors, each competing in at least two events in every meet this season. Bromley, in particular, has emerged as a standout, already racking up four event titles.
For a young group to be this impactful, this early? That bodes well for the program’s depth and future.
Scouting the Utes
Utah enters the meet with a bit of a mixed bag. The Utes opened Big 12 play with a win over Iowa State, but it wasn’t their cleanest performance. Falls on both bars and floor dragged their team total down to 195.725-lower than what we’re used to seeing from a program with national championship pedigree.
Still, this is a Utah team that finished fourth in the nation at last year’s NCAA Championships and claimed the 2025 Big 12 title. They’ve got the talent and experience to bounce back quickly-and they’ll be motivated to clean things up in front of their home crowd.
History on the Line
Arizona State has some history to overcome here. In the all-time series, the Sun Devils trail Utah 10-39-1.
Their last win over the Utes came in 2023 in Tempe. But with momentum on their side, a red-hot senior leader, and a group of fearless freshmen, ASU has the pieces to make this one interesting.
Friday night in Salt Lake City has all the makings of a statement opportunity. Let’s see if the Gym Devils are ready to rise to the moment.
